The arrival of the R$ 500 million ethane carrier signifies a major step in Braskem's strategy to enhance logistics autonomy, reduce costs, and strengthen its global competitiveness while prioritizing sustainability.
Braskem, a global leader in large-scale biopolymer production, announced a significant expansion of its logistics capabilities with the christening and commencement of operations for its new vessel, the "Brave Future." This state-of-the-art ethane carrier, representing an investment of approximately R$ 500 million, will serve the crucial trade route connecting the United States, Mexico, and Brazil, marking a pivotal moment in the company's drive for greater operational efficiency and global market leadership.
The christening ceremony, held at the YAMIC shipyard in China where the vessel was constructed, celebrated the addition of a strategic asset to Braskem's fleet. The "Brave Future" measures an impressive 188 meters in length and boasts a substantial capacity of 36,000 cubic meters, capable of safely transporting cargo at ultra-low temperatures, down to -104°C.
Financed by Ocean Yield and set to be operated by Hartmann Reederei, the vessel is equipped with advanced dual-fuel engine technology, running on both bunker oil and ethane. This innovative propulsion system not only ensures high fuel efficiency but also significantly reduces CO2 emissions by approximately 40% compared to the average fleet currently in operation. This commitment to environmental responsibility aligns with Braskem's broader dedication to sustainable solutions in the petrochemical industry.
Hardi Schuck, Director of Braskem Trading & Shipping (BT&S), emphasized the strategic importance of the new vessel. "The Brave Future is a strategic asset that expands our autonomy in the area of logistics, which provides greater predictability to operations, and strengthens our position as a global leader in the petrochemical industry," stated Schuck. He highlighted how this investment will enhance the company's ability to manage its supply chain more effectively, ensuring timely and cost-efficient delivery of its products.
Prior to its official christening, the "Brave Future" underwent rigorous sea trials. These comprehensive tests at sea evaluated critical aspects such as safety, speed, maneuverability, and overall equipment performance, ensuring the vessel meets the highest operational standards before embarking on its commercial voyages.
With the addition of the "Brave Future," Braskem now operates two dedicated ethane carriers, complementing its existing vessel, the "Brilliant Future." Looking ahead, Braskem Trading & Shipping (BT&S) has ambitious plans for further expansion, with the anticipated delivery of four more ships by 2026. This reinforces Braskem's unwavering commitment to developing innovative and sustainable logistics solutions that are precisely aligned with the evolving demands of global maritime trade and its dedication to a more environmentally conscious future.
