Brazos Midstream Plans New 300 MMcf/d Gas Processing Plant

Brazos Midstream will add 300 MMcf/d processing capacity in Texas, lifting Midland Basin capacity to 1.1 Bcf/d by 2027.

Brazos Midstream has announced plans to expand its natural gas processing infrastructure in Texas with the construction of a new 300 million cubic feet per day (MMcf/d) cryogenic processing plant. The facility, named Cassidy II, will be developed at the company’s existing Cassidy processing complex in Glasscock County and is expected to begin operations in summer 2027.

The project represents another major step in Brazos Midstream’s efforts to accommodate rising natural gas production from the Midland Basin. Once Cassidy II becomes operational, Brazos will increase its total nameplate natural gas processing capacity in the Midland Basin to approximately 1.1 billion cubic feet per day (Bcf/d).

The expansion is backed by long-term acreage dedications covering about 575,000 acres from leading private and publicly traded producers. These customers are currently engaged in large-scale development activities across the basin, providing Brazos with a strong foundation for sustained throughput growth. In addition, the company recently secured a new long-term agreement with a supermajor, pushing current system volumes above 700 MMcf/d.

According to Stephen Luskey, Chief Commercial Officer of Brazos Midstream, producer customers are accelerating development in deeper geological formations, including the Barnett, where production typically carries higher gas-to-oil ratios. This trend is contributing to a substantial increase in natural gas volumes across Brazos’ operating system.

The company views the additional processing capacity as essential infrastructure that will enable producers to continue expanding output without facing immediate midstream constraints. Brazos also highlighted its ability to deliver the new capacity on an accelerated schedule, allowing the company to expand infrastructure in line with anticipated production growth.

Cassidy II follows another major investment announced earlier this year. Brazos is already developing Cassidy I, a separate 300 MMcf/d cryogenic natural gas processing facility at the same complex. Mechanical completion for Cassidy I is expected by November 2026, with the plant targeted to enter service before the end of 2026.

Together, Cassidy I and Cassidy II will significantly strengthen Brazos Midstream’s processing capabilities in the Midland Basin. The projects also underline the continued expansion of natural gas infrastructure in the Permian region, where increasing production from oil-focused and deeper formations is generating greater demand for gas gathering, processing and transportation services.

Impact on the Product & Chemanalyst Chemical Commodities

The expansion is likely to strengthen natural gas processing capacity in the Midland Basin and support higher gas production by reducing potential midstream bottlenecks. Greater availability of processed natural gas and associated natural gas liquids (NGLs) could improve feedstock supply for petrochemical production. In the near term, stronger gas output may place modest downward pressure on regional natural gas prices if production growth exceeds demand and takeaway capacity. However, increased NGL availability could support more competitive pricing for ethane, propane and butane, benefiting downstream petrochemical manufacturers. Chemical commodities tracked by ChemAnalyst that depend on these feedstocks may experience lower or more stable production costs, although broader energy-market conditions will remain influential.
