Cardinal Midstream Expands Delaware Basin Footprint; Triples Natural Gas Processing Capacity

Cardinal Midstream Partners has announced a significant infrastructure expansion in the core of the Delaware Basin, completing 36 miles of new pipelines and committing to a $220 MMcf/d capacity increase at its Pecos River Processing Complex.

Cardinal Midstream Partners, an independent midstream energy company, has announced a substantial expansion of its natural gas gathering and processing footprint in the prolific Delaware Basin. The expansion includes the completion of a major pipeline network extension and a significant boost in processing capacity to meet the rising demand from one of the nation’s most active oil and gas producing regions.

The initial phase of the expansion saw the successful completion of 36 miles of new, large-diameter, high- and low-pressure natural gas gathering pipelines. These new lines span critical production areas in Eddy County, New Mexico, and Loving County, Texas. With this addition, Cardinal’s total operated natural gas infrastructure in the core Delaware Basin now measures nearly 150 miles.

In addition to the new gathering lines, Cardinal Midstream announced a major expansion of its Pecos River Processing Complex in Loving County, Texas. This project will add a total of 220 million cubic feet per day (MMcf/d) of natural gas processing capacity.

Once completed in early 2026, this addition will more than double the facility's current capacity, bringing Cardinal’s total processing capability to 360 MMcf/d. This substantial increase is designed to provide producers with necessary processing services, preventing potential curtailments and ensuring reliable flow to downstream markets.

Cardinal Midstream Partners CEO, Doug Dormer, commented on the strategic move: “The Delaware Basin continues to see unprecedented growth with production expected to increase for years to come. These significant expansion projects provide high-quality energy infrastructure that ensures reliable midstream services for our customers’ future development.”

This expansion is the latest step in Cardinal's aggressive growth strategy since its founding in 2022. The company’s initial entry into the Delaware Basin was marked by its crucial 2023 acquisition of Medallion Midstream’s natural gas gathering and processing business. That initial transaction provided Cardinal with approximately 80 miles of pipelines and a 140 MMcf/d natural gas processing facility (the Pecos River Complex).

Since the acquisition, Cardinal has consistently executed pipeline and compressor station expansions to serve its rapidly growing customer base, demonstrating its commitment to becoming a dominant player in the region's midstream space.
