Celanese earns ISCC CFC certification for POM ECO-C grades, advancing low-carbon materials, expanding global sustainability leadership, and enhancing digital transparency for customers.

Celanese Corporation, a prominent global player in the specialty chemicals and materials sector, has reached a significant sustainability milestone by securing the International Sustainability & Carbon Certification (ISCC) Carbon Footprint Certification (CFC) for its Hostaform® and Celcon® POM ECO-C product grades. The certification applies to its manufacturing facilities in Frankfurt, Germany, and Bishop, Texas, marking a substantial expansion of the company’s network of accredited sites. This achievement reinforces Celanese’s long-term strategy of supporting customers in lowering their product-level carbon emissions and advancing the global movement toward a more circular and climate-conscious materials ecosystem.

The newly granted certification highlights Celanese’s technological progress and persistent commitment to innovation aimed at reducing environmental impact. One of the core foundations of this accomplishment is the company’s investment in Carbon Capture and Utilization (CCU) capabilities, implemented at its Clear Lake, Texas facility. This advanced CCU initiative forms part of the Fairway Methanol joint venture with Mitsui & Co., Ltd., recognized as one of the most active and large-scale carbon utilization projects worldwide. Through this process, carbon dioxide emissions that would otherwise contribute to atmospheric pollution are instead captured and converted into methanol. This methanol then serves as a lower-carbon input for downstream materials production, enabling Celanese to decrease dependency on fossil-based feedstocks without compromising the high performance that customers expect from its engineering polymers.

The certification also validates the strong performance profile of POM ECO-C grades. Despite their substantially reduced carbon footprint, these materials retain the mechanical and functional strengths that have long defined Celanese’s polyoxymethylene (POM) portfolio. Customers can expect the same high stiffness, outstanding thermal stability, excellent sliding behavior, and strong wear resistance that have historically made Hostaform® and Celcon® reliable choices across various demanding applications. Now, these benefits are strengthened by a verified and significantly lower environmental impact, making the ECO-C portfolio the lowest-carbon POM offering from Celanese to date.

Strengthening the global reach of its sustainability program, Celanese’s dual-site certification in both Europe and the United States further consolidates its leadership in sustainable engineering polymers. By expanding ISCC-certified operations across continents, the company can support a broader base of customers seeking materials that align with evolving environmental regulations, corporate sustainability targets, and market expectations for measurable carbon reduction.

To complement its material innovations, Celanese is also enhancing transparency and data access through digitalization. Customers can now obtain Product Carbon Footprint (PCF) letters for specific grades using AskChemille.com, the company’s digital assistant and advanced materials support platform. By integrating select Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) data into the Chemille® tool, Celanese enables users to better understand the environmental characteristics of each material they select. This capability not only increases visibility into greenhouse gas emissions but also empowers customers to make more informed and sustainability-driven decisions.

Overall, Celanese’s newly achieved ISCC CFC certification demonstrates a decisive step in its ongoing journey toward lower-carbon, circular material solutions. Through a combination of technological investment, verified emissions reductions, global certification expansion, and digital transparency, the company continues to strengthen its leadership in responsible and forward-thinking material innovation.
