Chhattisgarh's Gevra Set to Become Asia's Powerhouse Coal Mine under Centre's Plan

India: Centre aims to boost Gevra mega project's Coal production capacity from 50 to 70 million tonnes per year, making it Asia's largest Coal mine, Coal secretary Amrit Lal Meena reviews plans with Chhattisgarh government officials during two-day Raipur visit; Gevra mega project currently largest Coal mine in India, Second in Asia-Pacific region.

Coal Ministry meeting reviews SECL operations including environmental clearances, land acquisition, and rehabilitation for mega projects Gevra, Dipka, and Kusmunda; statement released on Saturday highlights discussion on cooperation from state government for successful SECL operations.

Coal secretary emphasizes time-bound completion of projects with state government and stakeholder coordination; meeting centres on Coal evacuation from Korba and Mand-Raigarh Coalfields, senior officials from SECR and SECL participate in discussions.

SECL officials deliberate on Coal dispatch, railway rake availability, and rail projects during meeting, centre aims to develop Gevra mega project into Asia's largest Coal-producing mine owned by state-owned miniratna company SECL, a subsidiary of Coal India.

Indonesia's Sangatta mine emerges as Asia-Pacific's largest surface Coal-producing mine; produced 49.2 million tonnes of Coal and estimated 51.4 mmtpa of run-of-mine (ROM) in 2021.
