Wanhua Chemical, a renowned player in China’s chemical and petrochemical market has announced to have begun the production at its new coal-based Methanol plant from earlier this week. The new generation Methanol plant is consists of 600 KTPA production capacity which can be expanded up to 670 KTPA.

With commencement of the new plant, the company has idled its previous coal-based Methanol plant with a capacity of 200 KTPA.

This new production facility coming onstream is perceived to have no significant effect on the overall Southeast Asian market as the company plans in utilizing it for captive consumption by Methylene Diphenyl Diisocyanate (MDI), Methyl tert-Butyl Ether and Methyl Methacrylate units accounting for around 200 KTPA of Methanol requirement. In addition, weak margins of Methanol amidst the current market condition is also restraining the company to avail its cargoes to external demand.
