Chlorum Solutions will acquire Cargill’s Eddyville chlor-alkali plant, expanding its proximity-based U.S. production strategy while preserving jobs and strengthening regional supply reliability.

Chlorum Solutions USA LLC has revealed that it has entered into a definitive agreement to purchase Eddyville Chlor-Alkali, LLC (“ECA”), a chlor-alkali production operation currently owned by Cargill, Incorporated and situated in Eddyville, Iowa. The transaction, which is anticipated to be completed in the second quarter of 2026, marks a major step in Chlorum’s expansion into strategically important regions. ECA operates an advanced manufacturing facility that produces essential chemicals including sodium hypochlorite, hydrochloric acid, and caustic soda. The site uses modern membrane-based chlor-alkali technology that enhances efficiency, minimizes environmental impact, and ensures consistent production quality.

Chlorum Solutions has built its business model around locating chlor-alkali production facilities closer to the industries and regions that rely heavily on these materials. By minimizing transportation distances, the company aims to reduce logistical risk, lower freight-related costs, and strengthen supply chain reliability for customers that depend on timely and stable access to chlor-alkali products. The Eddyville plant is already a critical supplier to several Cargill operations in the region as well as to multiple local manufacturers, which makes it an attractive addition to Chlorum’s proximity-driven operational strategy.

According to Daniel Croce, CEO of Chlorum Solutions USA, safety, operational excellence, and long-term reliability remain the organization’s primary commitments. He emphasized that the Eddyville facility plays a significant role in supporting a wide range of manufacturers throughout the Midwest. Croce stated that Chlorum intends not only to maintain this role but to fortify it through targeted investments, enhanced operational practices, and sustained support for the employees who have kept the facility running successfully. He confirmed that all current employees will retain their positions, ensuring consistent operations for customers and preserving the strong safety culture that has been cultivated under Cargill’s ownership. Chlorum’s affiliates bring considerable global expertise, having developed and managed several small-scale chlor-alkali plants across Brazil and Uruguay, where six sites are fully operational and two more are nearing commissioning.

Cargill expressed confidence in Chlorum as the ideal successor to manage the Eddyville chlor-alkali business. Daryn Kracht, Managing Director for Starches, Sweeteners & Texturizers at Cargill Food NA, noted that both companies share a commitment to customers, employees, safety, and responsible environmental practices. He emphasized that Cargill looks forward to continued collaboration at the co-located site. Kracht also reaffirmed Cargill’s long-standing dedication to the state of Iowa, highlighting the company’s workforce of over 1,800 employees across a dozen facilities in the state, including the starch plant that remains in operation at Eddyville.

This acquisition follows Chlorum’s December 2024 announcement of its first U.S.-based facility in Casa Grande, Arizona—an investment exceeding $70 million aimed at delivering safe, localized chlor-alkali production capacity. That project, which marked Chlorum’s official entry into the U.S. market, demonstrated a growing need for manufacturing options situated outside traditional petrochemical centers. The planned acquisition of the Eddyville facility represents the next major milestone in Chlorum’s expansion strategy and reinforces its commitment to shaping a more reliable, locally focused chlor-alkali supply network across the United States.
