Clariant and Swire Energy Services launch new Norway supply base, boosting chemical logistics, safety, and support for growing European energy sector.
Clariant Oil Services, a recognized global leader in the production and supply of specialty oilfield chemicals, has taken another step in strengthening its presence in the European energy sector. In collaboration with its long-term strategic partner Swire Energy Services, the company has announced the opening of a new bulk storage and transfer base in Dusavik, Norway. This facility, which is expected to be fully operational by September 2025, represents a significant commitment to supporting Norwegian oil and gas customers while catering to the increasing demand in the region.
The newly established base is designed to handle large-scale chemical storage and transfer. It features multiple bulk storage tanks and an advanced automated transfer system, capable of loading directly onto offshore supply vessels or into tote tanks. Automation ensures accuracy and efficiency in chemical transfers, minimizing operational risks while improving service delivery. According to Samy El-Khoury, Head of Oil Services EMEA, the project underscores Clariant’s dedication to supporting customer growth during what he described as a “significant growth phase” for Norway’s oil and gas market.
Strategically located in Stavanger, the Dusavik base is positioned at the heart of Norway’s North Sea energy activities. The area is widely recognized as one of the country’s largest maritime and energy clusters, providing access to world-class infrastructure and proximity to over 60 service companies. This location ensures seamless operations for both Clariant and its partners, while enhancing support for offshore operators working in the region.
The facility itself includes a dedicated Quality Control (QC) laboratory, ensuring all products meet rigorous performance standards before being dispatched. The laboratory is capable of conducting a wide variety of quality assessments, while additional advanced analysis can be carried out at Clariant’s nearby site in Tananger. Alongside the QC lab, the facility also houses an administrative office and extra storage for Intermediate Bulk Containers (IBCs) and totes. By consolidating all operations within a single secure site, Clariant aims to maximize safety and operational efficiency. Importantly, the Dusavik facility has been built to meet Clariant’s stringent global standards on safety, sustainability, and environmental responsibility.
Swire Energy Services, which has partnered with Clariant on this project, plays a critical role in logistics and chemical management. The company specializes in ensuring the safe handling, transportation, and delivery of high-value chemicals. Its end-to-end service capabilities cover order management, dispatch coordination, transportation, and logistics oversight—making it an ideal partner for supporting Clariant’s chemical supply operations.
Commenting on the new development, Bengt Ullenes, General Manager Norway at Swire Energy Services, emphasized the collaborative nature of the project. He described the facility as a “truly joint effort” between the two companies, highlighting the importance of supporting both regional and global customers. He further noted that this investment enhances Swire’s role in chemical management along Norway’s coastline, while also providing opportunities for future growth and development in the sector.
This new base marks a strategic milestone for Clariant and Swire Energy Services, reinforcing their commitment to enabling safe, reliable, and sustainable support for Europe’s energy industry.
