Commonwealth LNG has officially contracted Technip Energies for the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) of its 9.5 million tonnes per annum LNG facility in Louisiana.
Commonwealth LNG announced today that it has formally awarded a comprehensive engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract to Technip Energies. The agreement will see Technip Energies take the lead on building Commonwealth’s state-of-the-art 9.5 million tonnes per annum liquefied natural gas (LNG) export facility in Cameron Parish, Louisiana, marking a critical milestone in the project's development.
Technip Energies, a recognized world leader with a hand in delivering more than 20% of the world's operating LNG capacity, had previously completed the front-end engineering and design (FEED) for the Commonwealth LNG project. This earlier work positioned them to optimize key aspects of the project, including the construction schedule, overall cost, and the detailed procurement plan.
Farhad Ahrabi, Commonwealth LNG President and CEO highlighted the strategic advantage of this partnership, particularly Technip Energies' innovative methodology. “We're pleased to have reached this critical milestone in our project's development as we expand our relationship with Technip Energies through the formal award of an EPC contract, that also includes Limited Notice to Proceed,” said Ahrabi. He further emphasized the project's reliance on Technip Energies' “fully modular approach to construction.” This method, he noted, stands in contrast to the traditional "stick-built" facilities common in the US LNG sector and is expected to provide “first class project execution with certainty of outcome on both cost and schedule for all our stakeholders.”
Arnaud Pieton, CEO of Technip Energies, expressed his honor in being awarded the project. He pointed to the company's "world leading expertise in modularized LNG solutions" and specifically mentioned their "SnapLNG by T.EN™" innovative modular approach. According to Pieton, this project is "pivotal in enhancing global energy security by ensuring a reliable and efficient supply of LNG."
The formal award of the EPC contract paves the way for Commonwealth LNG’s final investment decision, which is anticipated in the latter half of 2025. With a clear path to construction and a world-class partner at the helm, the project is on track to begin producing LNG by 2029, promising a new source of energy for the international market and significant economic benefits for Louisiana. This collaboration between Commonwealth LNG and Technip Energies sets a new standard for project execution, prioritizing efficiency, cost control, and a streamlined path to a successful and timely project delivery.
