Cymat partners with global Tier 1 automotive manufacturer to design, assemble, and expand lightweight SAF-based components for international OEM markets.
Cymat Technologies Ltd. has officially announced that it has entered into a strategic partnership agreement with a globally recognized Tier 1 automotive components manufacturer. The collaboration focuses on the design, development, and manufacturing of advanced proprietary lightweight and energy-absorbing components tailored specifically for the automotive industry. This alliance represents a key step in Cymat’s mission to expand its role as an innovative supplier in the sector.
Working in close collaboration with its long-term design partner, Tesseract Structural Innovations, Inc. ("Tesseract"), Cymat has already made significant progress in pioneering new solutions for the automotive space. Together, the companies have designed, prototyped, and rigorously tested a variety of novel lightweight, energy-absorbing components that address evolving industry requirements for efficiency, safety, and sustainability. Currently, Cymat and Tesseract are engaged in the design of a new component, which is being developed in response to a Request for Information (RFI) from a leading global automotive manufacturer.
Cymat brings considerable expertise in producing stabilized aluminum foam (SAF), a material known for its lightweight structure, durability, and energy absorption qualities. The company has both the technical knowledge and the manufacturing capacity to supply the SAF elements required for the new component. However, Cymat acknowledges that it lacks the capability to handle the full assembly of complex SAF-filled aluminum structures. This is where the new partnership plays a critical role.
The Tier 1 automotive partner specializes in the design and production of sophisticated aluminum extrusions, making it an ideal collaborator for Cymat. Under the terms of the agreement, the Tier 1 manufacturer will participate in the design process and will also be responsible for the manufacturing and assembly of the final product. Beyond this specific project, the agreement also paves the way for both companies to explore and jointly pursue additional component opportunities in the automotive sector.
Cymat’s CEO and Chairman, Michael Liik, expressed enthusiasm about the new collaboration, describing it as a vital step toward unlocking larger opportunities within the industry. He remarked, “We are excited to be partnered with this major auto parts manufacturer as it completes the last piece of the puzzle needed to secure automotive contracts.”
Liik further highlighted the broader strategic benefits of the partnership. Since the Tier 1 manufacturer is already an established supplier to the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) referenced in the RFI, as well as to many other global automotive OEMs, Cymat anticipates that this collaboration will provide access to a significantly wider customer base. “We look forward to jointly introducing our innovative solutions to a host of new prospective automotive manufacturers around the world,” Liik added.
Through this agreement, Cymat is positioning itself not only as a materials innovator but also as a key contributor to the next generation of automotive components that prioritize lightweight performance and safety.
