Yangzijiang Shipbuilding, a prominent Chinese private shipbuilder, has inked a significant contract with Danaos Corporation for the construction of two cutting-edge methanol-ready container ships, each boasting a capacity of 8,258 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEU). This collaboration marks a strategic move for Danaos, expanding its fleet capabilities and signalling a commitment to innovative, eco-friendly shipping solutions.

As part of the agreement, Danaos now has a total of four vessels in the construction pipeline at the Yangzijiang shipyard. Anticipated deliveries are scheduled for the second half of 2026 and the first quarter of 2027, demonstrating the efficiency and timeline adherence expected from this partnership.

Danaos, a key player in the maritime industry, is actively pursuing advancements in vessel technology and sustainability. Currently overseeing the construction of 12 container ships with a cumulative capacity of 91,430 TEU, the company is set to receive deliveries of six vessels in 2024, two vessels in 2025, three vessels in 2026, and one vessel in 2027. This ambitious construction plan aligns with Danaos' commitment to incorporating the latest eco-friendly features in its fleet.

The newly commissioned container ships are designed to meet the latest environmental standards, featuring methanol fuel readiness, Alternative Maritime Power Units, and compliance with the International Maritime Organization's (IMO) Tier III emission standards and Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) Phase III requirements.
