Delfin Midstream Reserves Siemens Turbine Capacity, Targets Fall Final Investment Decision for Key U.S. Energy Project

Delfin partners with Siemens, Samsung, and B&V to advance offshore LNG project, targeting 2025 FID and 2029 vessel delivery.

Delfin Midstream Inc. has announced a significant step forward in its floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) infrastructure development by entering into a strategic agreement with Siemens Energy Inc. The agreement reserves manufacturing capacity for four SGT-750 Gas Turbine Mechanical Drive Packages, which will be integral to powering the mixed-refrigerant compressors in Delfin’s LNG liquefaction system. This milestone marks another critical move as Delfin prepares for a Final Investment Decision (FID) expected in the fall of 2025 for its prominent U.S.-based energy infrastructure project situated in Louisiana and offshore in the Gulf of Mexico.

In tandem with the Siemens Energy agreement, Delfin has launched an Early Works program in collaboration with Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) and Black & Veatch (B&V). This initiative will refine the design specifications of Delfin’s first FLNG vessel and provide a detailed foundation for a Lump-Sum Turn-Key Engineering, Procurement, Construction, and Integration (EPCI) contract. These preparations are aimed at reducing risk and ensuring that all contractors are fully equipped to begin immediate execution of the project following a positive FID.

Dudley Poston, CEO of Delfin Midstream, expressed enthusiasm about the project’s progress, stating, “We are thrilled by the momentum we’ve built. With the recent issuance of the deepwater port license by MARAD, all major project components are aligning on schedule. Securing gas turbine manufacturing capacity from Siemens ensures that our execution timeline remains intact, and we are on course for the delivery of our first FLNG vessel from Samsung’s shipyard by 2029.”

Karim Amin, Executive Board Member at Siemens Energy, echoed this optimism, noting, “We’re proud to support Delfin’s offshore LNG development with our SGT-750 gas turbines. Their compact design, high efficiency, and operational flexibility make them an ideal choice for this groundbreaking, low-emissions project.”

The agreement with Siemens Energy not only secures essential equipment but also reinforces Delfin’s commitment to innovation and reliable execution. The Early Works program with Samsung and B&V will provide vital groundwork for vessel construction and help ensure seamless progress post-FID.

On March 21, 2025, Delfin LNG LLC, a subsidiary of Delfin Midstream, made history by receiving the first-ever deepwater port license issued by the U.S. Maritime Administration (MARAD) for LNG exports. The license, granted under the Deepwater Port Act of 1974 and President Trump’s January 2025 executive order “Unleashing American Energy,” authorizes Delfin to construct, operate, and export LNG from its offshore platform.

Delfin’s floating LNG strategy leverages a brownfield deepwater port requiring minimal new infrastructure. With plans to host up to three FLNG vessels, the project is poised to produce 13.2 million tonnes of LNG annually, contributing significantly to U.S. energy exports and economic growth.
