A groundbreaking collaboration between Anax Power, Magellan Scientific, and Enbridge is set to revolutionize clean energy generation by deploying advanced turboexpander systems in Ontario, Canada, and Pennsylvania, United States. This strategic partnership will leverage Anax Power’s proprietary technology to generate emissions-free electricity from natural gas pipelines, without combustion, providing sustainable power for Magellan Scientific’s co-located, modular, off-grid data centers.

The initiative marks a significant step towards decarbonizing energy infrastructure and addressing the rapidly growing electricity demands of data centers. Anax Power, known for its innovative approach to converting waste energy into usable power, has signed Operating Agreements with Enbridge, a leading North American energy infrastructure company, to install its Anax Turboexpander System ("ATE") at key locations.

The projects are poised to add substantial clean energy capacity to Enbridge’s system. In Hamilton, Ontario, the deployment will contribute up to 1.5 megawatts (MW) of clean energy, while the Pennsylvania site is expected to generate up to 2 MW. This emissions-free power will be directly consumed by Magellan Scientific’s advanced data centers, creating a self-sustaining and environmentally friendly energy ecosystem.

A core tenet of the Anax Turboexpander System is its ability to generate electricity without burning natural gas or releasing greenhouse gases. The ATE harnesses the existing pressure and flow of natural gas within Enbridge’s pipelines to drive a turbine, producing clean electricity. This innovative method not only reduces emissions but also transforms what was once considered waste energy into a valuable resource.

The Pennsylvania project represents Anax and Magellan’s second installation in the state, underscoring their growing commitment to the region. The Hamilton project, however, holds particular significance as it will be the inaugural ATE installation in Canada, setting a precedent for future deployments across the country. Enbridge’s adoption of the ATE technology is a testament to its proactive stance on sustainability, making it the first major pipeline in North America to embrace this cutting-edge solution. This initial deployment could pave the way for hundreds of similar installations across Enbridge’s extensive network in the coming years.

Anax Power plans to install up to three ATEs at the Enbridge facility in Ontario and up to four ATEs in Pennsylvania. Each of these installations will be seamlessly integrated with Magellan’s co-located, modular, off-grid data centers. This unique turboexpander-data center system will provide a reliable source of clean, baseload power. Furthermore, the system is designed to utilize excess cooling generated by the turboexpander, enhancing server efficiency and improving thermal management within the data centers at zero incremental cost.
