Entergy Finalizes Sale of Natural Gas Distribution Assets to Delta Utilities

Entergy completed the sale of its gas business to Delta Utilities, enhancing its electric focus while ensuring seamless service transition.

On July 1, 2025, Entergy officially announced the completion of the previously disclosed sale of its natural gas distribution business to Delta Utilities, a New Orleans-based company supported by Bernhard Capital Partners. With this milestone, Delta Utilities has now assumed full responsibility for the operational management and service delivery of the natural gas systems that were formerly under Entergy’s oversight.

Drew Marsh, Chair and CEO of Entergy, expressed appreciation for the successful handover and acknowledged the dedication of Entergy’s gas division employees. “Today represents a significant achievement as we finalize the transfer of our natural gas business to Delta Utilities. I would like to extend my gratitude to our gas employees whose efforts have ensured safe and reliable service for our customers over the years. We are confident that Delta Utilities will uphold and build upon that standard,” Marsh stated.

The transaction includes a sizable infrastructure portfolio comprising approximately 3,700 miles of natural gas pipelines and an additional 2,200 miles of service lines. These assets have supported a broad customer base, including around 96,000 residential and commercial customers in the Baton Rouge area under Entergy Louisiana, and approximately 108,000 customers in New Orleans through Entergy New Orleans.

This sale was subject to multiple regulatory approvals, all of which were secured prior to the transaction's completion. These approvals came from key regulatory bodies, including the Louisiana Public Service Commission, the Metropolitan Council of the City of Baton Rouge and East Baton Rouge Parish, and the New Orleans City Council.

From Entergy’s strategic perspective, this move aligns with its intent to refocus its resources and capabilities on its expanding electric utility operations. “The completion of this transaction sharpens our focus on growing Entergy’s electric business, enabling us to further invest in delivering a stronger, more resilient energy infrastructure for the communities we serve,” Marsh added.

Entergy and Delta Utilities have committed to working collaboratively to ensure a seamless transition for all gas customers in the Baton Rouge and New Orleans regions. Their joint efforts are designed to maintain service reliability, address customer needs proactively, and ensure continuity throughout the changeover process.

This transition marks a major pivot point for both organizations—Delta Utilities expands its footprint in the energy sector, while Entergy moves forward with a sharpened focus on electricity generation, distribution, and long-term sustainability initiatives.

Entergy Louisiana delivers electricity to over 1.1 million customers across 58 parishes, while Entergy New Orleans serves more than 209,000 customers within Orleans Parish. Both entities operate as subsidiaries of Entergy Corporation, a Fortune 500 company that provides power to 3 million customers through its operating companies located in Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Texas.
