EuroChem launched a major sulfuric acid plant in Kazakhstan, advancing its billion-dollar chemical complex and boosting regional economic growth.

EuroChem has officially commissioned a major sulfuric acid production facility in the Zhambyl Region of the Republic of Kazakhstan, marking a significant milestone in the company’s long-term industrial expansion strategy in Central Asia. The newly operational plant is considered one of the largest sulfuric acid facilities in Kazakhstan, featuring an annual production capacity of approximately 800,000 tonnes. The sulfuric acid produced at the plant will primarily support EuroChem’s integrated chemical complex currently under development, while also supplying the growing requirements of Kazakhstan’s domestic industrial market.

The commissioning of the sulfuric acid facility represents the second stage of EuroChem’s extensive multi-phase investment initiative in Kazakhstan. Earlier, during the first phase of the project, the company successfully launched a phosphate ore extraction and processing complex capable of producing around 840,000 tonnes annually. The third and final stage of the investment program is scheduled for completion in 2027 and will involve the launch of a large-scale chemical manufacturing complex dedicated to producing mineral fertilizers and various industrial products. Overall investments in the integrated project have surpassed $1 billion, and once all development phases are completed, the combined annual production output is expected to exceed 1 million tonnes.

The initiative forms part of Kazakhstan’s Unified Industrialization Map, a national program focused on strengthening industrial capacity, diversifying the economy, and reducing reliance on imported industrial products. Officials have emphasized that the project aligns closely with the strategic industrial development objectives established by the President of Kazakhstan. According to Yersaiyn Nagaspayev, the country’s Minister of Industry and Construction, the project demonstrates the growing level of industrial cooperation and strategic economic partnership between Kazakhstan and international investors. He noted that the establishment of advanced manufacturing facilities contributes directly to the nation’s economic resilience and long-term self-sufficiency.

Once all phases become operational, the Zhambyl Region is expected to host one of the rare full-cycle chemical production hubs globally. The facility will integrate the entire value chain within a single industrial ecosystem, including raw material extraction, mineral processing, and the manufacturing of finished chemical products. This vertically integrated structure is designed to improve operational efficiency, strengthen supply reliability, and increase the competitiveness of Kazakhstan’s chemical industry in international markets.

EuroChem has also highlighted that the project incorporates advanced technological solutions aimed at ensuring high standards of operational safety, environmental responsibility, and product quality. Igor Georgiadi, CEO of EuroChem Karatau, stated that the company remains committed to further investments in Kazakhstan while continuing to support the country’s agricultural and industrial sectors. He added that the company intends to deepen its cooperation with Kazakhstan’s agro-industrial industry through reliable fertilizer and chemical product supply.

Beyond its industrial significance, the project is expected to generate substantial economic and social benefits for the region. During the implementation period alone, the project has already contributed nearly 70 billion tenge in tax revenues to Kazakhstan’s budget. Upon the completion of all project phases, more than 1,200 direct jobs will be created within EuroChem’s operations, while thousands of additional employment opportunities are expected to emerge across associated logistics, maintenance, and service industries.

EuroChem has additionally invested heavily in social infrastructure development across the Zhambyl Region since 2012. The company’s contributions, totaling approximately $29 million, have supported the modernization and renovation of residential buildings, educational institutions, healthcare facilities, and urban infrastructure projects. These investments underline EuroChem’s broader commitment not only to industrial growth but also to improving living standards and supporting sustainable regional development in Kazakhstan.
