The state-of-the-art facility, located on Jurong Island, boasts an annual production capacity of 100,000 metric tons and is built to the highest safety and environmental standards.

In a significant expansion of its global footprint, specialty chemicals company Evonik has officially inaugurated its new world-scale alkoxides production facility on Jurong Island, Singapore. The mid-double-digit-million-euro investment, first announced in May 2023, marks a crucial step in the company's strategy to enhance regional supply security and responsiveness to growing customer demand across the burgeoning Asian market. With an impressive annual production capacity of 100,000 metric tons, the plant is poised to become a key hub for the company's catalyst business.

The inauguration ceremony was a festive affair, attended by notable figures including Ms. Grace Fu, Singapore's Minister for Sustainability and the Environment and Minister-in-Charge of Trade Relations. Minister Fu praised Evonik for its swift execution, noting, “Evonik first broke the ground in 2023 and in less than three years, has taken this state-of-the-art alkoxides plant to completion — on schedule and on budget." This rapid development highlights the strong partnership between the German company and Singapore, reinforcing the country's status as a leader in the sustainable chemical industry.

Beyond its production capacity, the new facility is a testament to Evonik's commitment to sustainability. The plant is engineered to operate with net-zero Scope 1 and 2 carbon emissions, a feature that aligns directly with the company's broader climate goals. This environmentally conscious design supports industries critical to the circular economy and energy transition, such as biodiesel production and chemical recycling, while simultaneously contributing to Singapore's vision for a greener industrial landscape.

Lauren Kjeldsen, Chief Operating Officer Custom Solutions at Evonik, underscored this dual benefit. "This facility is more than just an expansion—it’s a statement of our long-term commitment to Asia," she said. "By producing closer to our customers, we enhance supply security and agility, while also contributing to Singapore’s vision for a sustainable chemical industry.”

The new facility completes Evonik's global alkoxides production network, which now includes a synchronized chain of sites in Germany, the U.S., and Argentina. This integrated network allows Evonik to offer a truly global supply chain, enabling it to meet specific local market needs with unparalleled speed and precision.

Alkoxides are versatile chemical compounds with a wide range of applications. Their primary use is in the production of sustainable biodiesel fuel from various feedstocks, including vegetable oils and used cooking oils.
