Expro has been awarded a significant three-year contract by Woodside Energy to provide advanced tubular running and cementing services for the Trion deepwater oil and gas development.
Expro, a leading provider of energy services, announced today that it has secured a major three-year contract with Woodside Petróleo Operaciones de México, S. de R.L. de C.V. This landmark agreement positions Expro at the forefront of Mexico’s first ultra-deepwater oil production facility, the Trion deepwater oil and gas development, located offshore Mexico.
Under the terms of the new contract, Expro will be responsible for delivering its industry-leading tubular running services (TRS) and cementing services. This comprehensive suite of services is crucial for the successful execution of the Trion project, which represents a significant milestone in Mexico's evolving energy landscape.
The partnership between Woodside and Expro is built on a strong foundation, with Expro having previously supported Woodside’s well construction activities during the exploration phase in Mexico. This latest collaboration not only reinforces their established presence but also highlights their shared commitment to advancing deepwater operations in the country. To facilitate the project, Woodside Energy will manage its operations from its Tampico shore base and office. In parallel, Expro is actively establishing a new operational hub in the Tampico area.
Expro's role will involve deploying its differentiated well construction technologies, which are designed to provide a seamless solution from the top drive to the target depth. The services encompassed by the contract include TRS casing, completion and drilling support, as well as the provision of essential casing accessories, cement heads, and Expro’s proprietary Skyhook system.
The Trion development is a greenfield project situated in the Perdido Fold Belt, approximately 180 kilometers off Mexico’s coastline in the Gulf of Mexico. The project will operate in challenging water depths of around 2,500 meters. As the first deepwater oil production endeavor in Mexico, Trion is a joint venture between Woodside Energy and Petróleos Mexicanos (PEMEX), with the ambitious target of achieving first oil by 2028.
Jeremy Angelle, Vice President of Well Construction at Expro, expressed his enthusiasm for the contract, stating, “With our extensive track record and a reputation as a trusted provider of TRS solutions, we are proud to play a key role in this world-class development. This contract win reflects not only the strength of our technical capabilities and commercial offering but also our legacy of supporting Trion exploration wells through Frank’s TRS and VERSAFLOTM systems.”
