Jordan inaugurates its first independent CNG station using Risha gas, advancing energy diversification, sustainability, investment opportunities, and national energy security.

Jordan is set to witness a milestone in its energy sector as the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources will inaugurate the country’s first independent compressed natural gas (CNG) station this Wednesday. The project is spearheaded by the National Advanced Natural Gas Company (Watani), which is a strategic partnership between Jopetrol and the Jordan Liquefied Gas Company. This newly established station will provide compressed natural gas filling services for a range of vehicles, including buses, trucks, and other transport units, by utilizing gas sourced directly from the Risha field.

This station is significant because it is the first facility of its kind in Jordan, marking a pivotal step in the nation’s efforts to integrate domestically produced natural gas into the energy market. The initiative aligns with Jordan’s long-term goals of reducing dependence on imported fuels, strengthening energy security, and promoting the efficient utilization of local resources. By providing a new avenue for the use of indigenous gas reserves, the project contributes directly to the national strategy for energy diversification.

According to an official statement issued by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources on Sunday, the government is actively working to expand the role of natural gas across various sectors. These efforts are not only aimed at meeting the growing energy demands of the Kingdom but also at making Jordan an attractive destination for energy-related investments. The ministry emphasized that this initiative reflects the objectives laid out in the Economic Modernization Vision, which seeks to boost energy efficiency, attract investors, and foster a more sustainable energy sector.

Another key component of the plan involves enhancing production from the Risha field, one of Jordan’s primary natural gas sources. Increasing output from this field will play a crucial role in ensuring that domestic demand can be met while simultaneously reducing the Kingdom’s reliance on external energy suppliers. The government also sees this expansion as a way to provide tangible benefits to local communities located near the production zones by creating jobs, supporting infrastructure development, and contributing to regional economic growth.

The Jordan Liquefied Gas Company holds the distinction of being the first entity to establish a specialized facility dedicated to processing natural gas extracted from the Risha field. This facility plays a central role in enabling the transport of processed gas to multiple economic sectors nationwide. Together with the newly inaugurated CNG station, this step highlights a growing trend in Jordan’s energy sector: the transition toward locally sourced, cleaner, and more sustainable energy solutions.

The launch of the independent CNG station therefore not only introduces new infrastructure but also reinforces the Kingdom’s long-term objectives of energy independence, sustainability, and economic modernization. It marks the beginning of a broader transition that will gradually reshape the country’s energy consumption patterns while ensuring that domestic resources are utilized to their fullest potential.
