FMC gains UK approval for Fundatis herbicide with Isoflex, expanding resistance management tools for cereal crops with novel chemistry.

FMC Corporation, a prominent global player in agricultural sciences, has officially secured registration in Great Britain for its innovative Fundatis® herbicide, formulated with Isoflex® active. This development allows for the herbicide's use in winter wheat and winter barley crops. Isoflex® active stands out as a novel herbicide chemistry in cereal applications and is recognized by the Herbicide Resistance Action Committee (HRAC) as a Group 13 herbicide — a group previously unavailable for such use in Great Britain.

The introduction of Fundatis® herbicide offers British cereal growers a new, highly effective solution for managing herbicide resistance across varied agronomic systems. The product contains two active ingredients: Isoflex® active, developed by FMC, and beflubutamid. This dual-active formulation enhances the product's efficacy in combatting key annual grass weeds, including Blackgrass (Alopecurus myosuroides) and Italian Ryegrass (Lolium multiflorum), as well as critical broadleaf weeds such as Groundsel (Senecio vulgaris) and various species of Speedwell (Veronica spp.).

According to Sebastià Pons, Vice President and President of FMC EMEA, “Fundatis® herbicide introduces a new solution featuring two active ingredients previously unavailable in Great Britain. This registration underscores FMC’s continued commitment to delivering innovative crop protection tools to farmers. By offering novel options to address herbicide resistance, we help farmers enhance their agronomic practices and achieve better outcomes.”

The registration of Fundatis® in Great Britain adds to the growing list of global approvals for Isoflex® active. The molecule has already been registered and brought to market in multiple countries, including Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Chile, China, Pakistan, Uruguay, and India. In addition, FMC has submitted a regulatory application for Isoflex® active in the European Union, signaling its intent to expand the herbicide’s footprint further.

Fundatis® herbicide will be commercially available to British growers during the upcoming fall growing season. Its strong efficacy and novel mode of action make it an essential component of integrated weed management programs. The product demonstrates versatility, offering pre-plant, pre-emergence, and early post-emergence selectivity across several major global crops such as canola, oilseed rape, cereals, and pulses. Ongoing research continues to explore Isoflex® active’s application in other crops and agricultural segments, reinforcing its potential as a long-term solution to herbicide resistance.

This registration represents another milestone in FMC’s strategy to provide cutting-edge, science-driven crop protection tools that improve productivity and sustainability for farmers worldwide.
