This move is part of a larger commitment to reindustrialize American manufacturing and strengthen domestic supply chains.
GE Vernova has announced plans to invest up to $100 million in Pennsylvania over the next two years. This substantial investment is projected to create approximately 700 new jobs across multiple factories within the state, with focus on modernizing the electric grid, strengthening domestic supply chains, and enhancing national security.
A cornerstone of this expansion is the company's leading grid solutions factory in Charleroi, PA, where 250 new jobs will be added. These roles are crucial for manufacturing additional high voltage switchgear products, essential components vital for the stable and reliable operation of the country's electrical grids. This expansion at Charleroi builds upon a larger $600 million multi-year investment announced by GE Vernova in January, which was initially expected to generate 1,500 new jobs across various U.S. facilities. With this latest announcement, GE Vernova has now committed to creating a total of 1,750 new U.S. jobs and making $680 million in U.S. investments since the beginning of the year.
In addition to the Charleroi factory expansion, GE Vernova also revealed a significant order to supply seven of its high-efficiency 7HA.02 natural gas turbines to the Homer City Energy Campus in Pennsylvania. This facility, once Pennsylvania's largest coal plant, is undergoing a transformation to provide up to 4.4 gigawatts (GW) of electricity. This power will support what is set to become a sprawling 3,200-acre natural gas-powered data center campus, specifically designed to cater to the escalating artificial intelligence (AI) and high-performance computing (HPC) needs of innovative technology companies shaping America’s digital future. The Homer City Energy Campus is slated for completion in 2027.
Scott Strazik, CEO of GE Vernova, highlighted the broader implications of the Homer City project, noting, “The Homer City project shows what smart energy investments can achieve — delivering more reliable, affordable power for all, creating thousands of skilled jobs, and positioning Pennsylvania to help lead the next era of AI.”
These approximately $100 million in new investments in Pennsylvania are part of a larger, cumulative global capital expenditure and research & development investment plan totaling $9 billion through 2028, initially unveiled at the company’s Investor Update in December 2024. GE Vernova's technology currently generates over half of the power in the United States, with the company employing more than 18,000 workers across 50 states and operating 18 U.S. manufacturing facilities, reinforcing its pivotal role in the nation's energy landscape.
