Germany HDG Market Strengthens as CBAM Halts Imports and Mills Push February Hikes

Galvanized Plain Sheet (HDG) prices in Germany continued their steady increase in mid-January as mills remained well booked and imported supplies dropped significantly due to CBAM rates. As a result of improvement in the construction sector as well as upcoming mill pricing announcements, the HDG marketplace is ready for a firm trend in the short term.

HDG prices in Germany saw a slight increase in the week ended January xx, continuing to move upwards since late December. Overall, European prices for HDG have been trending upwards as mills seek to push prices to higher levels for February deliveries. Importing has effectively ceased due to the EU&#xx;s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), causing buyers to shy away from further orders, thus furthering the increase in prices due to increased demand being channelled toward domestic producers of HDG.

Market sentiment is also positive as the European mills’ order books are full. As result, many mills have already sold out for Qx, and galvanized plain sheet is now primarily available for April delivery. This resultantly helped the pricing of HDG in the region.
