GSFC begins commercial operations at its new 600 MTPD sulphuric acid plant in Vadodara, strengthening fertilizer and chemical supply capabilities.
Gujarat State Fertilizers & Chemicals Ltd has successfully commenced commercial operations at its newly established sulphuric acid manufacturing facility located at Fertilizernagar in Vadodara. The plant officially began production on January 7, 2026, marking a significant milestone in the company’s ongoing capacity expansion and operational strengthening initiatives.
With an installed production capacity of 600 metric tonnes per day (MTPD), the new sulphuric acid plant substantially enhances the company’s ability to meet rising demand from both the fertilizer and broader chemical industries. Sulphuric acid is a critical input for the manufacture of phosphatic fertilizers, industrial chemicals, petroleum refining, and several downstream applications, making this facility strategically important for ensuring supply reliability.
The commissioning of the plant signifies the successful completion of the development, construction, and testing phases, and its transition into full-scale commercial production. This shift reflects the company’s preparedness to integrate the new asset seamlessly into its existing production ecosystem, while maintaining high standards of safety, efficiency, and operational reliability. The facility has been designed to align with modern industrial practices, allowing for optimized resource utilization and stable output performance.
Situated within the Fertilizernagar manufacturing complex, the new sulphuric acid unit benefits from the site’s established infrastructure, logistics connectivity, and experienced technical workforce. By leveraging existing utilities, storage systems, and operational expertise, the company is expected to achieve smooth ramp-up and cost-efficient operations. This integrated approach also minimizes incremental infrastructure requirements while maximizing overall plant productivity.
The addition of this plant strengthens the company’s position as a key supplier of essential chemical inputs to India’s fertilizer sector, supporting domestic agricultural productivity and food security. As fertilizer demand continues to grow in line with agricultural expansion and government initiatives, the increased availability of sulphuric acid will play an important role in ensuring uninterrupted production of critical fertilizer grades.
Beyond fertilizers, the new capacity also positions the company to serve a wider industrial customer base, including chemical manufacturers and other sectors that rely heavily on sulphuric acid as a core raw material. This diversification potential enhances revenue stability and allows the company to respond more flexibly to market dynamics.
The commissioning of the Vadodara facility reflects the company’s long-term commitment to capacity augmentation, self-reliance, and value-chain integration. By investing in essential upstream chemicals, the company aims to reduce dependence on external suppliers while strengthening its competitiveness in domestic and international markets.
Overall, the start of commercial operations at the new sulphuric acid plant represents a strategic step forward, reinforcing production capabilities, supporting downstream growth, and contributing to the resilience of India’s fertilizer and chemical supply chains.
