GTT Marine will equip Petronas-chartered LNG carriers with integrated digital tools to optimize vessel performance, lower emissions, improve efficiency, and reduce operating costs.

GTT Marine, the maritime solutions division of France-based Gaztransport & Technigaz (GTT), has secured a contract to deploy its integrated digital performance platform across a fleet of liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers chartered by Malaysia’s national energy company, Petronas. The initiative is aimed at enhancing vessel performance through advanced digital technologies that improve operational efficiency, lower costs, and support emissions reduction across the fleet.

Under the agreement, GTT Marine will provide a comprehensive suite of digital solutions designed to give Petronas a unified approach to managing LNG carrier operations. The platform integrates data collection, performance monitoring, voyage optimization, and cargo operation visibility into a single ecosystem, enabling more informed operational decision-making.

A key feature of the deployment is GTT Marine’s advanced data acquisition system, which captures operational information from both traditional noon reports and high-frequency onboard sensors. The collected data is then structured and analyzed to provide meaningful performance insights. Through its Vesper Insights platform, the information is converted into actionable recommendations, allowing ship crews and fleet managers to assess vessel efficiency over time and identify opportunities for maintenance, operational improvements, and technical optimization.

The digital toolkit also incorporates voyage optimization capabilities by combining weather forecasting, vessel performance models, and digital twin technology. Supported by GTT Marine’s Fleet Centre, which provides continuous 24/7 assistance, these capabilities help optimize routing decisions, improve fuel efficiency, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The integrated decision-support system enables both onboard crews and shore-based teams to better manage fuel consumption while enhancing voyage planning.

In addition to operational efficiency, the solution strengthens cargo management by improving visibility into cargo handling processes and related vessel activities. Enhanced monitoring capabilities enable operators to oversee cargo operations more effectively, contributing to safer and more efficient LNG transportation.

GTT Marine noted that the agreement has been structured to accommodate potential future expansion of Petronas’ chartered LNG carrier fleet, allowing additional vessels to be integrated into the same digital ecosystem as fleet capacity grows.

Commenting on the partnership, Casper Jensen, Chief Executive Officer of GTT Marine, stated that the agreement reflects the successful integration of Danelec, Ascenz Marorka, and Vessel Performance Solutions under the GTT Marine umbrella. He emphasized that combining data acquisition, analytics, and voyage optimization into a single platform enables customers to transition from isolated digital tools to a more comprehensive, data-driven approach to fleet management.

The contract follows a series of recent wins for GTT, including multiple LNG carrier tank design projects and work on a floating LNG (FLNG) unit, reinforcing the company's growing presence in the global LNG shipping sector.

Impact on Product

The deployment of GTT Marine's integrated digital solutions will improve the operational efficiency of Petronas' LNG carrier fleet by optimizing fuel consumption, voyage planning, cargo handling, and maintenance scheduling. Enhanced vessel performance and lower emissions will reduce transportation costs while improving LNG delivery reliability. As digital fleet management becomes more widely adopted, LNG shipping companies may increasingly invest in similar technologies to improve competitiveness, regulatory compliance, and sustainability, supporting more efficient global LNG supply chains over the long term.
