HEXPOL AB, headquartered in Malmö, Sweden, has completed the acquisition of 100% of Italy-based Vipa Group, a leading manufacturer of specialty thermoplastic compounds. The move aligns with HEXPOL’s strategy to strengthen its thermoplastics business while expanding its presence in the rapidly growing Wire & Cable market. The acquisition also enhances the company’s product portfolio and extends its reach across Europe.
Founded in 1969 by the Paolini family, Vipa Group has established itself as one of Europe’s leading producers of high-performance thermoplastic compounds. The company specializes in materials designed for Wire & Cable applications, serving industries such as electrification, telecommunications, data centers, and smart buildings. These sectors continue to experience robust demand due to ongoing infrastructure development and digital transformation.
The transaction includes the acquisition of Vi.pa S.r.l. and Vi.pa Polimeri S.r.l., which together form the Vipa Group. The company operates two advanced manufacturing facilities in Italy and a modern research and development center that supports product innovation. In 2025, Vipa generated revenue of approximately €76.4 million and employed around 80 people. The business also retains additional production capacity, allowing room for future expansion without major capital investments.
To ensure a smooth integration, the Paolini family will assist HEXPOL during an 18-month transition period. Meanwhile, current CEO Nicola Vigolo will continue leading Vipa Group, which will operate as a subsidiary within HEXPOL’s Thermoplastic Compounding business area.
Peter Rosén, Acting CEO and CFO of HEXPOL, said the acquisition represents another milestone in the company’s growth strategy announced during its Capital Markets Day in November 2025. He noted that HEXPOL aims to build a leading global thermoplastics platform through both organic expansion and strategic acquisitions. According to Rosén, Vipa strengthens HEXPOL’s position in the Wire & Cable segment while providing valuable expertise in specialty materials and exposure to long-term growth trends driven by electrification and the expansion of digital infrastructure.
Stefano Paolini, Chairman of Vipa Group and a member of the founding family, welcomed the acquisition, stating that HEXPOL shares the company’s commitment to sustainable development and long-term industrial investment. He expressed confidence that the new ownership would preserve Vipa’s legacy while providing employees with broader growth opportunities as part of an international organization.
The acquisition reflects HEXPOL’s increasing emphasis on thermoplastic compounding as a strategic business area and reinforces its ambition to become a leading supplier of advanced polymer compounds for high-growth industrial applications.
Impact on Products and Chemical Commodity Prices
The acquisition is expected to strengthen the availability and development of high-performance thermoplastic compounds, particularly for Wire & Cable, telecommunications, data centers, smart buildings, and electrification projects. Increased investment in R&D and production could accelerate demand for specialty polymer compounds across Europe. For chemical commodities tracked by ChemAnalyst, demand may gradually rise for polyethylene (PE), polypropylene (PP), EVA, PVC compounds, flame retardants, carbon black, plasticizers, stabilizers, and specialty additives used in cable insulation and thermoplastic formulations. While the deal is unlikely to trigger immediate price changes, sustained production expansion and stronger downstream demand could provide medium-term price support for these materials.
