Hyliion Holdings Corp., a developer of sustainable electricity-producing technology, announced it has signed a non-binding letter of intent with Mesa Natural Gas Solutions to demonstrate and potentially deploy its KARNO Power Module across various industrial and oil and gas applications.

The letter of intent outlines a multi-phase plan beginning with the purchase of one 200-kilowatt KARNO Power Module for commercial deployment. The demonstration will start with the unit providing stationary power at a commercial site using natural gas. A second deployment will follow at an oil and gas location, utilizing wellhead or flare gas as the fuel source.

Pending the successful performance of the initial demonstration, the agreement includes an option for Mesa to acquire additional KARNO modules—both 200 kW and 2 megawatt versions—totaling up to 2.4 MW of capacity.

“This collaboration with Mesa is a meaningful opportunity to showcase the KARNO Power Module’s real-world performance in a demanding application,” said Thomas Healy, founder and CEO of Hyliion. “We’re excited to demonstrate how the Power Module’s efficiency, fuel flexibility, and scalability can support Mesa’s efforts to deliver reliable and lower-emission power solutions to their customers.”

The KARNO generator operates using advanced heat-to-electricity conversion technology. It is designed to be fuel-agnostic and can run on over 20 different fuels, including natural gas, hydrogen, and other industrial waste gases. The system’s modular design supports both mobile and stationary power needs and aims to deliver reduced emissions and increased operational efficiency compared with traditional combustion-based systems.

Mesa Natural Gas Solutions, a leading manufacturer and provider of natural gas generators and microgrids, views the KARNO Power Module as a strategic enhancement to its product portfolio.

“We are always looking for new technologies that help our customers reduce emissions and increase operational efficiency,” said Scott Gromer, CEO of Mesa. “Hyliion’s KARNO system aligns with our vision of delivering dependable, clean, on-site power, and we look forward to evaluating its potential across our energy applications.”

Hyliion’s collaboration with Mesa highlights a growing industry demand for scalable, cleaner power solutions, particularly in sectors with high energy needs. The outcome of this partnership could pave the way for broader adoption of hybrid and alternative power systems across the energy landscape.

Both companies expect the initial demonstration phase to begin soon, with further deployments contingent on the results.

Hyliion is dedicated to developing innovative technologies that support clean, flexible, and cost-effective electricity generation. The company’s core mission is to deliver modular power plant solutions capable of running on multiple fuel types, helping to ensure resilience in a rapidly evolving energy landscape. Based in Austin, Texas, with research and development operations in Cincinnati, Ohio, Hyliion is initially focusing on the commercial and waste management sectors. Its locally deployable KARNO Power Module is designed to provide both prime power and energy arbitrage capabilities.
