In July ****, India’s Carbamazepine market shifted from the prior month’s decline into slight price gains. Average ex-factory Carbamazepine rose from about INR *.** lakh/kg in June to INR *.** lakh/kg in July (a roughly *.*** increase). This was driven mainly by higher feedstock costs. In June, falls in urea and acetic acid sharply eased production costs for Carbamazepine. However, by July these feedstocks had firmed. Urea – a key nitration feedstock – has seen rising prices amid tighter ammonia supplies and local gas constraint. Likewise, acetic acid (used to make acetic anhydride for carbamylation) has climbed; India’s spot acetic acid is now about ** recently. These cost increases forced manufacturers to adjust Carbamazepine offers upward.
