Indovinya launches a global open innovation challenge to develop sustainable, non-ethoxylated fragrance solubilization technologies for personal care using AI-driven solutions.

Indovinya, the specialty chemicals and surfactants division of Indorama Ventures, has announced the launch of its Open Innovation Challenge dedicated to advancing sustainable fragrance solubilization technologies for the personal care sector. The initiative, organized in partnership with AEVO, a company recognized for its expertise in corporate innovation management, aims to identify and support groundbreaking solutions that eliminate the need for ethoxylates in fragrance solubilization. Researchers, entrepreneurs, and startups worldwide are invited to submit proposals that incorporate sustainability, performance, and scientific innovation. Applications are open until October 26.

The challenge is designed around two complementary pillars. The first focuses on leveraging green chemistry principles to create novel surfactants that are biodegradable, naturally derived, free from microplastics, and capable of maintaining fragrance stability and superior sensory performance. These innovations are intended to enhance both the sustainability and the aesthetic experience of personal care products. The second pillar emphasizes the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and predictive modeling to forecast solubilization behavior, product stability, and sensory effects across various molecules and surfactant blends, particularly non-ethoxylated ones. This data-driven approach reduces reliance on time-consuming laboratory testing, streamlines product development, and shortens the commercialization timeline.

Selected participants will gain access to collaborative development platforms, expert mentorship, and potential opportunities for licensing or commercial partnerships with Indovinya. Entries will be carefully reviewed by specialists from both AEVO and Indovinya, with finalists advancing to a mentorship stage that culminates in a Pitch Day before Indovinya’s leadership in Personal Care, Digital R&D, and Innovation.

According to Renata Haenel, Indovinya’s Global Innovation Director, the initiative reflects the company’s commitment to co-creation as a catalyst for progress:

“At Indovinya, we believe that agile development thrives on collaboration. Open innovation allows us to combine our in-house technical strength with external expertise to deliver safer and more sustainable solutions that align with evolving consumer and environmental expectations.”

Indovinya’s dedication to continuous innovation was recently acknowledged when it was named one of MIT Technology Review’s Innovative Workplaces 2025 in Brazil. This recognition underscores the company’s dynamic culture that encourages creativity, agility, and knowledge sharing across its global network.

Operating in 10 countries with 15 manufacturing facilities and seven R&D centers, Indovinya employs over 3,000 professionals worldwide. In 2024 alone, it evaluated over 80 startups and initiated 10 proof-of-concept projects with emerging partners. With a robust innovation ecosystem and over 500 patent applications in 30 countries, Indovinya continues to drive collaborative breakthroughs that redefine sustainability and performance standards in the personal care industry.
