An Iranian missile strike has impacted an Israeli oil refinery located in the northern port city of Haifa, though authorities have stated that the resulting damage was limited in scale. According to Israel’s Energy Ministry, the attack did not lead to any major structural or operational disruption at the facility.
Energy Minister Eli Cohen confirmed that the incident caused a temporary interruption in electricity supply across parts of northern Israel. However, he emphasized that power was quickly restored to most affected areas. Cohen further noted that the impact on the regional power grid was minor and localized, adding that critical infrastructure sites in the north remained largely unharmed despite the missile barrage.
The strike was reportedly carried out by Iran’s elite military unit, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), which claimed responsibility for targeting energy facilities in both Haifa and Ashdod. In a statement, the IRGC said the operation was aimed not only at oil refineries but also at a broader set of security installations and military support centers associated with Israel. The group asserted that its missiles struck their intended targets with precision. However, Israeli officials have not confirmed whether the refinery in Ashdod sustained any damage.
In Haifa, authorities reported that debris from an intercepted missile fell within the refinery complex, prompting an investigation by the Ministry of Environmental Protection. Israel Electric Corporation reported that a power line in the Haifa region was struck by shrapnel during the attack, leading to a short-lived outage. Electricity services were fully restored within approximately 45 minutes, minimizing disruption to residents and businesses.
Emergency responders from Israel’s Fire and Rescue Services stated that debris landed at two separate locations within the refinery premises, igniting a fire that temporarily disrupted supply operations. Fire crews were able to bring the situation under control swiftly, and no injuries or fatalities were reported. Following a thorough inspection, officials confirmed that the site was secure and that air quality monitoring showed no abnormal readings, ensuring there was no threat to public safety.
This incident follows a previous strike in June last year, when the same refinery in Haifa was hit by an Iranian missile.
