Honeywell has revealed that Inner Mongolia Jiutai Group (Jiutai) has chosen its UOP eFining technology to aid in producing 100,000 tons of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) annually from eMethanol. This agreement marks Honeywell’s first global commercial eFining license and underscores the company’s commitment to aligning its portfolio with key megatrends: the future of aviation, energy transition, and automation.

Honeywell eFining is a methanol-to-jet (MTJ) technology that transforms eMethanol into eSAF, a low-carbon jet fuel. It operates reliably on a large scale and at a lower cost than competing technologies. Utilizing methanol derived from carbon dioxide (CO2) and green hydrogen, Honeywell's eFining technology broadens the range of feedstocks for SAF and can cut greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by up to 88% compared to traditional jet fuel.

"Honeywell’s deep technical knowledge and practical experience in SAF have allowed us to discover innovative methods for using flexible feedstocks to aid aviation’s energy transition," stated William Yu, President of Honeywell China. "This partnership not only represents our first commercial license for SAF production with Honeywell’s eFining technology but also highlights our dedication to advancing the global aviation industry towards sustainable, low-carbon development."

Inner Mongolia Jiutai Group will transform its methanol-to-olefins (MTO) facility into a SAF production plant using Honeywell's eFining technology. By utilizing the abundant wind resources in northwest China, Honeywell and Inner Mongolia Jiutai Group aim to attain highly efficient SAF production.

"With over a century of technological advancement, Honeywell has built a robust partnership with Jiutai," said Cui Lianguo, Chairman of Jiutai Group. "This collaboration allows Jiutai to repurpose excess capacity from our MTO facility and leverage Honeywell’s technology for SAF production. This partnership not only propels our group's energy transformation but also supports the sustainability goals of the aviation industry."

Honeywell's eFining technology is among the newest additions to its portfolio, contributing significantly to the decarbonization of the aviation industry.

Honeywell International Inc., a publicly traded multinational conglomerate based in Charlotte, North Carolina, operates across four main sectors: aerospace, building automation, performance materials and technologies (PMT), and safety and productivity solutions (SPS). The company specializes in addressing complex challenges in automation, advancing aviation technology, and supporting the energy transition. Honeywell delivers actionable solutions and innovations across its Aerospace Technologies, Building Automation, Energy and Sustainability Solutions, and Industrial Automation segments.
