KSIADC partners with Biofuel Company to deploy B100 biodiesel, enhancing sustainability and cutting emissions during airport construction phase.
The King Salman International Airport Development Company (KSIADC), a company fully owned by the Public Investment Fund (PIF), has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Biofuel Company to promote the use of sustainable energy during the construction of King Salman International Airport. This partnership focuses on utilizing B100 biodiesel—a renewable alternative to conventional fossil diesel—in order to reduce carbon emissions during the airport’s development phase.
Through this agreement, Biofuel Company will supply B100 biodiesel to power various construction activities at the airport site. The use of this clean energy source will significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions and contribute to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s broader objectives of achieving net-zero emissions. This initiative is in direct alignment with the nation’s environmental commitments and Vision 2030 goals.
Marco Mejia, Acting CEO of KSIADC, emphasized the importance of the collaboration by stating, “This partnership represents a tangible advancement in our efforts to construct a world-class airport that complies with the highest international sustainability benchmarks. We are committed to integrating clean energy alternatives and are pleased to collaborate with Biofuel Company in this strategic initiative. This aligns not only with our sustainability goals but also with the broader global climate agenda.”
Abdullah Al-Otaibi, CEO of Biofuel Company, echoed this sentiment, noting, “We are honored to partner with KSIADC on one of Saudi Arabia’s most prominent infrastructure projects. This MoU reinforces our dedication to supplying high-quality biodiesel solutions that reduce the reliance on fossil fuels and support the Kingdom’s long-term sustainability vision as laid out in Vision 2030.”
Headquartered in Jubail, Biofuel Company is a leading Saudi enterprise that specializes in converting animal fats and vegetable oils into advanced biodiesel. The company serves a wide range of clients from both the public and private sectors across Saudi Arabia, delivering environmentally responsible fuel solutions that meet high-performance standards.
The memorandum not only strengthens the sustainability credentials of the King Salman International Airport project but also signals a wider move within the Kingdom’s infrastructure development sector to prioritize renewable energy solutions and resource efficiency. The use of B100 biodiesel is expected to reduce the project’s overall environmental footprint, optimize energy use, and support responsible resource management.
By embedding environmental considerations into its construction practices, KSIADC aims to position the new airport as a benchmark for green infrastructure in the region. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to ensure that future large-scale projects in Saudi Arabia adhere to global standards in sustainability and emissions reduction.
