Lanze Energy is advancing a significant milestone in China's green energy sector with the launch of a large-scale green methanol project at Dafeng Port. Designed to produce 300,000 metric tons of green methanol annually, the initiative is poised to become a benchmark for sustainable fuel production both within China and internationally. This project is a major technological breakthrough in the field of renewable energy and is expected to play a vital role in accelerating the country’s energy transition.
The project is being led by Jiangsu Lanze Energy Technology Co., Ltd., a green energy enterprise formed through a collaborative effort between various research and investment groups. Key stakeholders include a research team led by Professor Sun Yuhan of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Shanghai Alliance Investment, the National Green Development Fund, Lu’an Chemical Group, and other institutions focused on technological innovation and clean energy development.
With a total investment of 2.25 billion yuan, the facility is being constructed in the Petrochemical Industrial Park of Dafeng Port District in Yancheng City, Jiangsu Province. The location was selected for its industrial infrastructure and strategic logistical advantages.
The development of the project has progressed steadily through a series of key milestones. On July 12, 2023, Lanze Energy entered a three-party cooperation agreement with Dafeng Port District and Yueda Group, also outlining plans for a 500,000 mt biomass-based green aviation fuel project and a 600,000 m³ green ammonia storage facility. In September 2023, the company formally established its presence in Dafeng. On November 20, 2023, the local government issued the official commencement order at the project site, marking the formal start of construction activities. Following this, an expert review meeting for the project’s feasibility study was successfully held on February 28, 2024. The first public announcement of the environmental impact assessment was made on May 17, 2024, and the project secured approval for enterprise investment registration on November 7, 2024. Most recently, on May 25, 2025, construction officially began on the project's general layout and transportation section.
The project will utilize agricultural waste as its primary raw material and will be powered entirely by green electricity. It incorporates proprietary technologies, including high-efficiency catalysts and advanced biomass gasification units. The construction includes biomass storage, pretreatment facilities, gas purification, methanol synthesis units, and necessary utility systems.
Upon completion, the Dafeng Port project will become Lanze Energy’s first large-scale industrial base for green fuel production. It is set to play a key role in promoting the development of China’s green energy sector, contributing to both national carbon reduction goals and global sustainability efforts.
