Erucic Acid prices inclined in the European region towards the end of the third quarter of 2025 amid firm demand in the key downstream industries and moderate supplies from suppliers. The demand for Erucic Acid was firm in the paints & coatings industry, due to its use in high-performance industrial lubricants and plasticizers. Simultaneously, Erucic Acid saw consistent orders from the cosmetics sector for its emollient properties in moisturizers, lipsticks, and hair care products. At the same time, the supply rates were moderate from the regional suppliers due to the region's increased focus on regional supply chains and domestic demand. Meanwhile, a decrease in feedstock rapeseed oil prices reduced the cost support. Anticipations are that Erucic Acid prices are likely to remain firm during the final quarter of the year due to an increase in restocking practices by downstream industries amid a seasonal rise in demand for oil-based cosmetics for winter applications.
Towards the end of the third quarter of 2025, Erucic Acid prices rose slightly (by around 0.5%) in the European region, driven by firm demand in the regional key downstream industries and moderate supplies from regional suppliers.
The demand for Erucic Acid remained steady across the key downstream paints and cosmetics industries in Europe, due to its versatile industrial and consumer applications. In the paints and coatings industry, the consumption of Erucic Acid was firm, driven by its use in high-performance industrial lubricants and plasticizers essential for coating formulations. Simultaneously, the cosmetics sector also saw the rising demand for Erucic Acid due to its emollient properties, making it a valuable ingredient in moisturizers, lipsticks, and hair care products.
At the same time, Europe’s internal trade was stable during the month due to increased focus on regional supply chains and domestic demand. Hence, supply rates remained moderate from regional suppliers. Recent trade deals encouraged member states to increase intra-EU trade as a buffer against global uncertainties and regulatory pressures. Meanwhile, Erucic Acid key feedstock rapeseed oil prices eased due to an increase in exports from Ukraine in September 2025. This increase followed the introduction of an export duty on rapeseed.
Last month, the rapeseed oil prices increased in Europe despite a strong harvest, primarily due to farmers’ reluctance to sell at prevailing market rates. This supply-side restraint created a tight market environment amid firm demand for rapeseed oil as buyers shifted away from more expensive alternatives like sunflower and soybean oils.
The introduction of export duty w.e.f. from 4 September 2025, resulted in an increase in capacity utilization of domestic units and eased the cost support on the production costs of Erucic Acid in the region. At the end of September 2025, Erucic Acid FD Hamburg quotations were hovering around USD 4950/MT.
Anticipations are that the Erucic Acid price trend would continue to showcase bullish movement as prices will be further raised by European market players during the final quarter of the year. The restocking by downstream manufacturers due to a seasonal rise in demand for oil-based cosmetics for winter applications would result in an increase in market offtakes of Erucic Acid, which would keep the market price elevated. Additionally, an anticipated increase in logistics costs before winter and input prices during peak winter would raise the production expenses. Hence, regional suppliers would raise their Erucic Acid quotations to protect and improve their profit margins.
