Methylene Dichloride Prices Rise 1.9% in China Amid Supply Tightening and Cost Support

Methylene dichloride was up 1.9% in price in mainland China in the week ending 16 November, driven by dwindling stock, increased methanol and liquid chlorine prices, and stabilized demand. It should be noted that although there was a price rise in the recent period, there are indications of oversupply in the market, low demand in conventional markets, and export difficulties, which would make further recovery unlikely for the commodity in 2026.

During the week of xx November xxxx, the market prices of methylene dichloride (DCM) in China indicated an increase of x.xx, owing to shortages in supply, rising production costs, and market support. After the New Year festival, the operating levels of major methylene dichloride manufacturers remained at a significant level of xxx, with some manufacturers running at full capacity. Towards the middle of January, the methylene dichloride industry indicated a slight decrease in operating levels of xx.xx, with some fluctuations in plant capacity.

On the cost side, dual gains of methanol and liquid chlorine in turn supported the growth. Methanol imports were predicted to be lower, and ports&#xx; inventory was declining, and stable purchasing by downstream chlorine consumers, which led to a rise in ex-factory prices for chlorine.
