Metso Expands Slurry Pump Portfolio with Valmet Acquisition

Metso will acquire Valmet’s hose and progressive cavity pump technologies, strengthening slurry handling, aftermarket services and mining-focused pumping solutions.

Metso has entered into an agreement to acquire peristaltic hose pump and progressive cavity pump technologies from Valmet, along with associated aftermarket spare parts and service capabilities. The transaction will expand Metso’s slurry handling portfolio and strengthen its position in pumping solutions designed for demanding mining and industrial applications.

The acquisition will add advanced pumping technologies that can operate effectively under challenging process conditions. The acquired business has an established and expanding installed base, which is expected to provide Metso with stable aftermarket opportunities through spare parts, maintenance and service activities.

Hose pump technology is particularly suitable for applications involving abrasive, corrosive, viscous and crystallizing slurries. These characteristics make the technology valuable in heavy-duty mining operations where continuous flow, dependable performance, energy efficiency, easy maintenance and extended equipment life are important.

Potential applications include thickener underflow, filter feed, flocculant dosing, slurry sampling and recirculation. By incorporating these technologies, Metso aims to provide a broader range of pumping solutions that can support operations across the mining process chain.

The acquisition will complement Metso’s existing slurry handling capabilities, which include slurry pumps, pipes, hoses, valves and hydrocyclones. The company also provides spare parts, equipment optimization and maintenance services through its global manufacturing and service network.

Following the transaction, the acquired products will be integrated into Metso’s pumps portfolio and marketed under the Metso brand. The products are currently sold under Valmet’s Flowrox™ brand. Production is expected to move to Metso’s manufacturing facility in Lappeenranta, Finland. Personnel associated with the acquired operations will also transfer to the Finnish facility.

The transaction is expected to close on October 1, 2026, subject to customary closing conditions. Metso and Valmet have not disclosed the financial value of the deal. Metso said the acquisition is not expected to have a material impact on its financial performance.

Tiago Marques Oliveira, Vice President of Metso’s Pumps Business Line, said the transaction will strengthen the company’s ability to provide end-to-end slurry handling solutions. He also highlighted the potential to improve Metso’s aftermarket and service capabilities and reinforce its role as a long-term lifecycle partner for mining customers worldwide.

Overall, the acquisition strengthens Metso’s presence in specialized slurry pumping and expands its ability to serve mining customers with integrated equipment and lifecycle support.
