Moeve Delivers Sustainable Aviation Fuel for Condor’s Tenerife–Germany Flights

Moeve supplied over 515 tons of SAF to Condor’s Tenerife–Germany flights, cutting emissions and advancing voluntary aviation decarbonisation.

Moeve has successfully completed a major delivery of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) to support Condor-operated flights departing from Tenerife South Airport in Spain’s Canary Islands, marking a significant voluntary step toward reducing aviation emissions. Notably, Tenerife South Airport is not yet covered by the mandatory requirements of the European Union’s ReFuelEU Aviation regulation, making this initiative a clear demonstration of both companies’ proactive commitment to decarbonising air travel beyond regulatory obligations.

Under the agreement, Moeve supplied more than 515 metric tons of SAF to Condor. The fuel was produced using waste-based feedstocks, including used cooking oils and agricultural residues, aligning with the principles of circular economy and advanced biofuel production. When assessed across its full lifecycle, the supplied SAF is expected to deliver an estimated reduction of around 1,700 tons of carbon dioxide emissions compared with conventional fossil-based jet fuel. This reduction highlights the tangible climate benefits that can be achieved through early adoption of sustainable fuels in commercial aviation.

The SAF was used on multiple high-demand routes linking Tenerife with major German cities such as Hamburg, Munich, Frankfurt, and Düsseldorf. According to airport operator Aena, more than 450,000 passengers travel each year with Condor to and from Tenerife South Airport, underlining the scale and potential impact of introducing SAF on these connections. By integrating SAF into these popular leisure and tourism routes, the initiative sends a strong signal about the role sustainable fuels can play in reducing emissions in one of Europe’s most travel-intensive regions.

Commenting on the collaboration, Ángel Martínez Campos, responsible for Sustainable Aviation business development at Moeve, emphasised that the agreement reinforces Moeve’s long-term commitment to cutting emissions in aviation. He highlighted that tourism is a cornerstone of the economy in Spain and particularly in Tenerife, making it essential to decarbonise air transport linked to the sector. Working jointly with Condor on a voluntary basis, he noted, demonstrates a shared dedication to sustainability that goes beyond minimum compliance with existing regulations.

From Condor’s perspective, the initiative also reflects strong passenger engagement. Sina Rathgeber, Director of Airport Relations, Government Affairs and Sustainability at Condor, explained that since last year the airline has offered customers the option to voluntarily round up their ticket price or make direct contributions toward SAF and certified climate protection projects. These contributions are ring-fenced exclusively for the purchase and deployment of additional SAF above regulatory mandates. According to Rathgeber, the high level of participation by Condor’s guests has been instrumental in enabling meaningful progress, including partnerships such as the one with Moeve to secure additional volumes of sustainable fuel.

The SAF supplied under this agreement was produced at Moeve’s La Rábida Energy Park in Huelva, southern Spain. At this site, Moeve is currently constructing a new second-generation biofuels facility with a flexible annual production capacity of up to 500,000 tons of SAF and renewable diesel. The project, one of the three largest industrial developments currently underway in Spain, is already more than 50% complete and is expected to begin operations by the end of 2026. Once commissioned, it will form the largest second-generation biofuels complex in southern Europe.

Expanding the production and availability of advanced biofuels such as SAF is a central element of Moeve’s Positive Motion strategy. Through initiatives like this supply agreement with Condor, Moeve aims to position itself as a leading European player in the energy transition by 2030, while helping the aviation sector make measurable progress toward lower-carbon operations.
