Montrose advances methane mitigation with patent-pending VeriPlume system, improving safety, measurement accuracy, regulatory compliance, and strengthening its expanding environmental innovation portfolio.

At a time when governments and corporations worldwide continue to miss ambitious methane reduction targets, Montrose Environmental Group, Inc. is emerging as a technology-driven leader with solutions that deliver measurable climate impact while enhancing operational safety. The company has introduced a major innovation to its growing research and development portfolio with the launch of its patent-pending VeriPlume Capture System™, a breakthrough designed to address one of the most persistent and high-impact contributors to methane emissions—high-volume vent releases.

Methane is widely recognized as one of the most potent greenhouse gases, and reducing its release is among the fastest ways to slow near-term global warming. Yet accurately measuring methane from elevated vents has long posed technical and safety challenges. Many of these vents are positioned as high as 60 feet above ground level, traditionally requiring technicians to use man-lifts or extended hose systems. These approaches not only increase operational costs but also expose workers to unnecessary risks and introduce friction losses that compromise measurement accuracy.

The VeriPlume Capture System™ was engineered specifically to overcome these limitations. Built using a lightweight, carbon-fiber telescoping design, the system allows technicians to safely capture and measure methane emissions directly from the ground. By eliminating the need for man-lifts and reducing reliance on long hose assemblies, the technology significantly improves safety conditions while enhancing collection efficiency. The result is more precise plume measurement, quicker deployment in the field, and meaningful cost savings for operators.

Beyond safety and efficiency, the innovation also supports regulatory compliance. High-volume vent emissions are consistently larger contributors to methane output than fugitive leaks, making them a priority under emissions standards such as U.S. Environmental Protection Agency OOOO-b rules. These regulations require operators to identify and repair vents emitting excessive gas volumes. By enabling accurate, repeatable measurements, the VeriPlume Capture System™ helps oil and gas companies meet compliance requirements while advancing their emissions reduction strategies.

According to Steve Woodard, innovation plays a decisive role in addressing climate challenges. He emphasized that reducing methane emissions offers one of the most immediate opportunities to curb rising global temperatures. The VeriPlume Capture System™, he noted, exemplifies how advanced engineering and environmental responsibility can be combined to protect the planet, improve technician safety, and help clients navigate increasingly complex regulatory frameworks.

The launch of VeriPlume Capture System™ further strengthens Montrose’s extensive innovation portfolio, which now includes 31 patents and multiple trademarks. In addition to methane measurement technologies, the company has developed a suite of science- based solutions aimed at tackling some of the most difficult environmental problems facing industries and municipalities.

These include SORBIX™ RePURE, a regenerable ion-exchange resin system designed to remove PFAS contaminants from water with far greater efficiency than traditional single-use media. By enabling in-place regeneration, the technology can reduce waste volumes by up to 80 percent while lowering long-term costs. Complementing this is SuperLoader™ Technology, which immobilizes concentrated PFAS waste into stable solid forms, minimizing disposal volumes. Montrose has also advanced industrial VOC abatement systems that use regenerable synthetic media and integrated vapor cooling to improve hydrocarbon removal while reducing downtime, waste generation, and operating costs.

Together, these innovations highlight Montrose’s commitment to delivering practical, scalable, and scientifically grounded solutions that protect public health, enhance industrial safety, and drive measurable environmental progress.
