Nexceris has announced the sale of its pioneering Li-ion Tamer off-gas monitoring solution to Honeywell, a strategic move that will integrate the leading battery safety technology into Honeywell's robust fire life safety portfolio.
Nexceris, a recognized leader in the realm of clean energy innovation, today announced a significant strategic transaction: the sale of its acclaimed Li-ion Tamer off-gas monitoring solution to Honeywell, a global diversified technology and manufacturing leader. This acquisition marks a pivotal moment for both companies, as Li-ion Tamer is widely regarded as the industry's premier technology designed to prevent dangerous thermal runaway events in lithium-ion (Li-ion) batteries, a critical concern across numerous applications.
For Nexceris, this divestiture represents a calculated step to sharpen its strategic focus. The company will now channel its resources and expertise into the development of related breakthrough technologies across a diverse array of energy markets, emphasizing advanced materials and component-level products. This move aligns with Nexceris' established strategy of transforming innovative technology ideas into commercialized products that are ultimately licensed or acquired by larger industrial partners, building on successful collaborations like its existing five-year partnership with Honeywell.
"I am immensely proud of what Li-ion Tamer® has evolved into," stated Kyle Shen, President and CEO of Nexceris. "This significant milestone not only reflects the unwavering dedication and hard work of our entire team but also powerfully demonstrates Nexceris' unique capability to transform complex technological concepts into globally impactful products. I extend my sincere gratitude to all the Nexceris team members and partners whose contributions were instrumental in building Li-ion Tamer into a solution that is actively making energy storage safer around the world."
The genesis of Li-ion Tamer stems from Nexceris' keen observation of a pressing safety need. Following a catastrophic lithium-ion battery fire incident at a U.S. Navy shipyard, Nexceris identified the critical necessity for advanced safety monitoring solutions. Through diligent research and development, the company successfully uncovered the root cause of such battery fires and subsequently developed a durable, highly effective detection solution, which laid the foundational groundwork for what would become Li-ion Tamer®. Since its commercialization, Nexceris has collaborated closely with Honeywell over the past half-decade, successfully distributing Li-ion Tamer® worldwide to various energy storage applications, accumulating an impressive track record of over 400 million hours of sensing to date.
"This sale serves as a powerful validation of Nexceris' core mission of commercialization achieved through collaborative efforts," added Randall Stacy, Chief Commercial Officer and Managing Partner at Nexceris.
