Nikkiso launches next-generation submerged ammonia pump at Gastech 2025, offering unmatched safety, reliability, and durability for growing clean energy demand.
At the Gastech 2025 Conference, Nikkiso Clean Energy & Industrial Gases Group (Nikkiso CE&IG) introduced a next-generation submerged ammonia pump, developed to set new benchmarks in reliability, safety, and ease of maintenance. The launch comes at a crucial time, as global demand for ammonia handling continues to accelerate across industries including power generation, chemical production, shipping, fertilizer manufacturing, and export infrastructure.
Ammonia has long been an essential component in fertilizer production, but in recent years, it has gained new significance as a versatile clean hydrogen carrier and as an alternative fuel. This transition has created urgent demand for advanced pumping solutions capable of handling ammonia safely and efficiently at scale. Responding to this shift, Nikkiso CE&IG has developed what it describes as the most reliable and operator-friendly pump available in the industry today.
The newly launched pump is a seal-less, copper-free system with an integrated motor-pump design. These features eliminate many of the recurring maintenance issues that operators traditionally face when handling ammonia, while also improving safety. The pump has an impressive performance capacity, capable of delivering over 2,500 cubic meters per hour. Its durability also stands out, with a mean time between outages exceeding 16,000 operating hours—a figure that significantly extends maintenance cycles compared to conventional models.
Commenting on the launch, Emile Bado, President of Nikkiso CE&IG’s Pumps Division, emphasized the growing role of ammonia in global energy and agriculture:
“Ammonia is increasingly recognized as a clean fuel, a hydrogen carrier, and an agricultural necessity. This growing demand means operators need pumps that address both performance and reliability concerns. Our new pump directly solves the common challenges customers encounter, while also raising industry standards in safety and longevity.”
Bado further noted that the development reflects Nikkiso CE&IG’s consistent legacy of innovation. Over the past four decades, the company has specialized in producing submersible motor pumps designed for ammonia service, providing customers worldwide with proven solutions. This latest launch reinforces that reputation by incorporating advanced engineering tailored to the evolving energy and industrial landscape.
The pump introduction is part of a broader strategy by Nikkiso and its parent company, Nikkiso Co, to support the ammonia value chain. Nikkiso CE&IG recently received Approval in Principle (AiP) for a next-generation ammonia fuel supply system and continues to expand its product portfolio of purpose-built exchangers for ammonia applications, including ambient and electric heat exchangers. Meanwhile, Nikkiso Co’s Industrial Division has already produced more than 7,000 canned motor pumps specifically for ammonia handling. Looking ahead, the company plans to release a new liquid ammonia pump designed for thermal power generation in the coming year, signaling its ongoing commitment to innovation and market leadership.
With this launch, Nikkiso CE&IG not only addresses immediate operator concerns but also positions itself at the forefront of the ammonia economy, supporting industries shifting toward cleaner energy solutions.
