OC Global partners with Passo Fundo to build Brazil’s green ammonia plant, enhancing sustainability, education, and local economic development.
On July 22, 2025, Oriental Consultants Global Co., Ltd. (OC Global) formalized a key partnership by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the City of Passo Fundo in Brazil. The MoU signifies a collaborative effort to support the development of an on-site green ammonia production facility. This significant milestone was marked during a formal ceremony attended by notable figures such as the Rector of the University of Passo Fundo and the President of the City Council, among other dignitaries.
OC Global, through its local Brazilian subsidiary, Oriental Consultants Global Do Brasil LTDA (OCGBR), has invested in Begreen Bioenergia e Fertilizants Sustentaveis Passo Fundo SPE S.A. (SPV Passo Fundo). The special purpose vehicle is focused on the local production and commercialization of green ammonia, a sustainable and low-carbon alternative to conventional fertilizers.
The City of Passo Fundo, which serves as one of the host municipalities for the planned facility, has committed to providing municipal-level support. As per the MoU, this support includes partial financial backing for the construction of water infrastructure and access roads necessary for the plant’s implementation.
Strategically located within the campus of the University of Passo Fundo, the plant has successfully secured environmental licenses in compliance with Brazil’s federal and local environmental regulations. This progress has been made possible with the understanding and backing of the local community.
Once the plant enters commercial operation, a share of its revenue will be allocated to fund scholarships for the university’s master’s program in engineering. This initiative will not only bolster local talent development but will also promote research and innovation in engineering disciplines tied to sustainability.
The project is further strengthened by the involvement of TecnoAgro, a public-private-academic incubation platform headquartered at the University of Passo Fundo. Both OCGBR and its partner Begreen H.D. are active members of this consortium. Guidance from this network has played a vital role in shaping the project and ensuring its smooth progression.
Beyond its environmental and educational contributions, the green ammonia plant is poised to play a broader socioeconomic role. It aims to help reduce CO2 emissions from Brazil’s agriculture sector, a critical component of one of the world’s leading food-producing nations. Simultaneously, the project will generate local employment opportunities, support municipal revenue generation through taxes, and further deepen cooperation between academia, industry, and government.
OC Global’s involvement in this venture reflects its wider commitment to fostering low-carbon technologies, regional development, and sustainable industry practices—a step forward in addressing global environmental challenges through local action.
