OCP S.A. (OCP), a global leader in the phosphate industry, has awarded Worley Chemetics a notice of award for the construction of three new greenfield sulphuric acid plants at its Mzinda Phosphate Hub (MPH) in Morocco. This strategic initiative aims to bolster OCP's production capabilities within its phosphate operations, enhancing its capacity to meet global demand for sulphuric acid. The upcoming contract signing will mark a significant milestone in advancing OCP's infrastructure development and further solidifying its position as a key player in the global fertilizer market.

Under the terms of the agreement, Worley Chemetics will supply its advanced sulphuric acid technology, including proprietary processes and equipment, alongside comprehensive engineering, procurement, and advisory services. These critical services will be managed through Worley's operational hubs in Vancouver and its specialized fabrication facility located near Toronto, Canada. Worley emphasizes the sustainability of this project, aligning it with their internal criteria for sustainability-related work.

Worley Chemetics' sulphuric acid technology distinguishes itself by enhancing electrical power generation with zero CO2 emissions and minimizing stack emissions compared to alternative technologies. The implementation of air cooling in the plant's design will significantly reduce water consumption. Furthermore, Worley's proprietary CES-ALPHA™ System will play a pivotal role in maximizing heat recovery by converting low-grade heat into steam, thereby optimizing energy efficiency and operational sustainability.

The OCP MPH project forms a crucial component of OCP's broader Green Investment program, strategically aligned with Morocco's ambitious energy transition strategy. This initiative aims to substantially increase annual fertilizer production capacity from 12 million to 20 million tons by 2027. Central to this expansion is the utilization of clean energy sources and innovative approaches to water management, reflecting OCP's commitment to sustainable development and environmental stewardship in the fertilization industry.

Chris Ashton, Chief Executive Officer of Worley, expressed satisfaction in continuing their support for OCP with Worley's proprietary sulphuric acid technology. This collaboration aligns with Worley's commitment to advancing sustainability goals, reflecting their dedication to delivering solutions that contribute to a more sustainable world. Worley's technology not only enhances operational efficiency but also promotes environmental stewardship, underscoring their role in enabling sustainable practices within the global chemical and mining industries.

Worley positions itself as a strategic partner for navigating the complex energy landscape of today and tomorrow. A global leader in professional services, Worley boasts a team of experts across the energy, chemicals, and resources sectors. Their collaborative approach centers on maximizing the value of their clients' assets throughout their entire lifespan. Worley recognizes the critical need for a balanced approach to energy. While they actively champion the development and implementation of sustainable solutions, they also understand the current reliance on conventional resources. This focus on both innovation and reliability allows Worley to partner with clients in achieving their long-term goals while ensuring a smooth and responsible energy transition.
