ORLEN and Naftogaz Solidify Partnership with Major US Gas Supply Contract for Ukraine

Polish energy giant ORLEN has signed a definitive contract with Ukraine's Naftogaz to supply 300 million cubic metres of natural gas sourced from the US in the first quarter of 2026.

ORLEN and Naftogaz have formalized a major gas supply agreement, confirming the delivery of 300 million cubic metres of US-sourced natural gas to Ukraine in the first quarter of 2026. The contract follows a crucial agreement reached during the Transatlantic Partnership for Energy and Climate (P-TEC) Summit held in Athens earlier in November 2025. This rapid transition from intent to a finalized contract highlights the mutual trust and clear strategic alignment between the two companies.

The gas will be supplied through three cargoes of US liquefied natural gas (LNG). ORLEN, leveraging its proprietary LNG carrier fleet and reserved regasification capacity, will manage the entire process, from sourcing the commodity to final delivery. This transaction is structured on an arm's length basis, ensuring fair market terms and reinforcing ORLEN's expanding role in the global LNG market and its growing footprint in the Central and Eastern European region.

Sergii Koretskyi, CEO of Naftogaz of Ukraine, emphasized the importance of this diversification: “We continue to diversify our gas supply sources and routes to strengthen Ukraine’s energy resilience. This year, as part of our cooperation with ORLEN, 600 million cubic metres of American LNG will be delivered to Ukraine.”

Koretskyi also provided a forward-looking perspective, stating, “Overall, in 2026 we expect US LNG imports to reach 1 billion cubic metres. I am grateful to our Polish partners for their trust.” This projection underscores a clear strategic shift towards importing LNG as a foundational element of Ukraine's future energy mix.

Robert Soszynski, ORLEN’s Vice President of the Management Board for Operations, highlighted the efficient process: “Only a several days passed between the signing of the letter of intent and the conclusion of the final contract. During that time, we refined all the contractual details and obtained the necessary corporate approvals. This swift process would not have been possible without mutual trust and a clear understanding of each party’s needs and objectives.”

The new agreement significantly deepens the commercial ties between the two energy giants. Since launching regular commercial cooperation in 2025, ORLEN has already delivered 600 million cubic metres of gas to Ukraine. The 300 million cubic metre contract for Q1 2026 solidifies this foundational partnership and is explicitly viewed as a precursor for future agreements.

For ORLEN, this contract reinforces its position as a major regional energy hub, utilizing its integrated logistics chain—from securing US LNG to regasification and onward delivery—to gain a stronger market foothold in Central and Eastern Europe.
