ORLEN Signs New Natural Gas Supply Deal with Naftogaz

ORLEN signs fourth 2025 gas contract with Naftogaz, supplying U.S. LNG to bolster Ukraine’s energy security before winter.

ORLEN has signed a new agreement with Ukraine’s national energy company Naftogaz to supply 140 million cubic metres of natural gas over the coming months. This gas, imported from the United States in liquefied form, will be regasified at the Swinoujscie LNG terminal in Poland before being delivered to Ukraine. The agreement is strategically timed to ensure uninterrupted energy access during the critical pre-winter period and plays a key role in supporting Ukraine's energy security as the country prepares for the upcoming heating season.

This is the fourth gas supply contract concluded between ORLEN and Naftogaz in 2025. Combined with the previous three contracts, the total supply volume this year reaches approximately 440 million cubic metres of gas. Like the earlier agreements, the current supply will involve liquefied natural gas (LNG) imported from the United States and regasified either at Swinoujscie in Poland or Klaipeda in Lithuania.

Robert Soszynski, Vice President of the ORLEN Management Board and Chief Operating Officer, highlighted the strategic importance of these deliveries. He emphasized ORLEN’s advanced trading capabilities, dedicated LNG shipping fleet, and access to regasification infrastructure as enablers of Ukraine’s diversification from Russian gas. Soszynski noted that these summer-time deliveries are crucial for replenishing Ukraine’s gas storage and align with the European Union’s REPowerEU goals, which aim to reduce dependency on Russian energy. ORLEN, having phased out Russian gas imports over three years ago, is now positioned to assist neighboring countries like Ukraine and Slovakia on their energy transition journeys.

The newly signed contract is a direct outcome of the commercial cooperation agreement signed in March 2025 between ORLEN and Naftogaz, specifically covering LNG and natural gas supplies. Sergii Koretskyi, CEO of Naftogaz, expressed gratitude toward the Polish partner, stating that the deal significantly strengthens Ukraine’s energy resilience amid the ongoing war with Russia. He underlined that securing LNG from the U.S. through Polish infrastructure is an essential step in ensuring energy availability for the Ukrainian population during winter.

ORLEN’s engagement in Ukraine is long-standing. It has been active in the Ukrainian energy market for over 20 years, supplying fuels from its Polish and Lithuanian refineries. Even after the onset of Russia’s invasion in February 2022, ORLEN swiftly continued its support. Just two days after the war began, it sent fuel via rail to Ukraine. In March 2022, ORLEN Lietuva began truck deliveries from Lithuania, followed by further rail supplies through Poland in June. These efforts helped stabilize Ukraine’s fuel supply during a critical period, ultimately making ORLEN the country’s largest fuel supplier. Additional products, such as bitumen from ORLEN Unipetrol in the Czech Republic, are also being delivered to Ukraine.

The companies further solidified ties in 2025 with two key agreements: one focusing on LNG and gas sales, and another on strategic collaboration. ORLEN also actively participates in forums like Petroleum Ukraine Warsaw ’25, reinforcing its commitment to regional energy cooperation.
