Perpetual Next USA plans three southeastern U.S. biomethanol plants, leveraging its Biomethanol Blueprint to meet rising global low-carbon fuel demand.

Perpetual Next USA has announced plans to develop three new large-scale biomass-to-biomethanol production facilities in the southeastern region of the United States, significantly strengthening its presence in the growing low-carbon fuels market. Each of the planned facilities will be capable of processing approximately one million tons of sustainably sourced biomass feedstock annually, underscoring the company’s commitment to scalable and responsible renewable fuel production. Development activities for the sites are scheduled to begin in 2026, marking an important milestone in Perpetual Next’s long-term growth strategy.

The decision to expand biomethanol production capacity comes at a time when global demand for low-carbon fuels is expected to rise sharply. Regulatory frameworks such as Europe’s FuelEU initiative, alongside voluntary commitments from industries seeking to reduce their carbon footprints, are accelerating the transition toward cleaner alternatives. Biomethanol, in particular, is gaining traction as a viable solution for decarbonizing shipping, chemicals manufacturing, and other energy-intensive industrial sectors. By 2050, demand for biomethanol is projected to increase substantially, placing pressure on the industry to scale production capacity at an unprecedented pace.

Anticipating this rapid growth, Perpetual Next has developed and is actively deploying its proprietary Biomethanol Blueprint across multiple sites in both Europe and the United States. This standardized approach combines proven technologies such as torrefaction, gasification, and methanol synthesis into an integrated production platform. The blueprint is specifically designed to enable fast, repeatable scale-up to commercial-scale biomethanol facilities, allowing Perpetual Next to respond efficiently to global market demand while maintaining consistent quality and sustainability standards.

Commenting on the announcement, Rene Buwalda emphasized the strategic importance of biomethanol in the broader energy transition. He noted that biomethanol serves as a critical building block for reducing emissions across shipping, chemical production, and industrial applications. According to Buwalda, the southeastern United States presents a particularly attractive opportunity due to the region’s abundant biomass resources and well-developed logistics and infrastructure networks. These factors, he explained, position the region as an ideal location for accelerating the responsible deployment of biomethanol at scale.

To support the rollout of its Biomethanol Blueprint in the United States, Perpetual Next is collaborating with a strong network of experienced domestic partners. This includes TSI, which brings extensive expertise in biomass feedstock handling and logistics, as well as Fluor, which is serving as Owner’s Engineer for the projects. The company has indicated that it will continue to engage with additional regional and national partners as development progresses, ensuring that each facility is delivered efficiently and in line with local and federal sustainability expectations.

Through this expansion, Perpetual Next aims to play a leading role in meeting future biomethanol demand while supporting the global transition toward cleaner energy and materials.
