Praj Industries, a global leader in bioeconomy-driven process solutions, has announced a strategic collaboration with Enersur S.A., one of Paraguay’s leading renewable energy companies, to develop a fully integrated biorefinery project in the South American nation.

The agreement was formalized during the state visit of Santiago Peña Palacios, President of the Republic of Paraguay, to India from June 2 to 4, 2025. The signing ceremony took place in the presence of President Peña and a high-level delegation comprising ministers, senior officials, and business leaders, highlighting the bilateral commitment to sustainable development and clean energy initiatives.

Under the terms of the agreement, Praj will support Enersur in the development, evaluation and phased execution of the biorefinery. The facility will go beyond ethanol production, aiming to manufacture a range of value-added co-products including distillers dried grains with solubles (DDGS), corn oil, biogas, biobitumen, and sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). This diverse output reflects the companies’ shared commitment to advancing a circular bioeconomy and reducing dependence on fossil fuels.

This collaboration follows a separate contract awarded to Praj by Enersur for the design, supply and commissioning of a 600 cubic meters per day anhydrous ethanol plant in Canindeyú, Paraguay. The facility, which will utilize corn as a feedstock, is poised to make a significant contribution to the country's clean energy goals and rural economic development. The plant is scheduled to be fully operational by October 2026.

Praj’s responsibilities in the project include licensing its proprietary process technologies, comprehensive design and engineering, supply of core processing equipment, and on-site supervisory support throughout the construction and commissioning phases.

Dr. Pramod Chaudhari, founder chairman of Praj Industries, emphasized the strategic importance of the partnership. “We are proud to collaborate with Enersur in shaping Paraguay’s bioenergy landscape and accelerating the transition toward a sustainable bioeconomy,” he said. “This project represents more than just ethanol—it is about unlocking the full potential of bio-based innovation for clean energy, circular economy, and long-term energy resilience in South America.”

Omar Bustos, president of Enersur S.A., highlighted Praj’s strong credentials. “We selected Praj as our partner due to their unmatched expertise, advanced technology and successful track record in executing bioenergy projects globally. Their presence in South America and focus on sustainability align perfectly with our vision to advance Paraguay’s bioeconomy and promote inclusive rural and economic growth.”

The partnership is expected to play a pivotal role in positioning Paraguay as a regional leader in renewable energy and bio-based industrial transformation.
