Premix Group, a Finnish-born global leader in electrically conductive plastics with over four decades of expertise, announced the grand opening of its cutting-edge U.S. manufacturing facility in Apple Creek, North Carolina on May 27. This significant expansion was backed by a substantial $79 million investment from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
Located in Dallas, NC, the new Apple Creek plant is poised to revolutionize the production of advanced polyethylene and polypropylene based compounds and concentrates. These materials, essential for extrusion and injection molding applications, will now be manufactured locally using U.S.-sourced raw materials. The compounds are engineered to facilitate accurate liquid level detection and, crucially, to provide robust protection against uncontrolled electrostatic discharges (ESD&Ex). This protective capability is vital for ensuring safer handling, transport, and storage in a diverse range of industries, including diagnostics, chemical, electronics, and industrial packaging, where precision and safety are paramount.
Jaakko Aho, CEO of Premix Group, emphasized the importance of this new facility. "These materials enable high-precision liquid level sensing in diagnostic testing, and safer handling, transport, and storage by protecting against uncontrolled electrostatic discharges (ESD) — a critical requirement in electronics, industrial packaging, diagnostics, and other high-performance applications," Aho stated. He further elaborated on the broader implications of this investment, adding, "Establishing a manufacturing presence in the United States is about more than production — it's about building resilient supply chains and trusted partnerships."
The establishment of the Apple Creek plant represents a multifaceted benefit for the U.S. market. By localizing production, Premix Group will significantly reduce lead times for its customers, offering a more agile and responsive supply chain. Furthermore, the use of U.S.-sourced raw materials and domestic manufacturing will contribute to a smaller carbon footprint, aligning with global efforts towards sustainability. Perhaps most importantly, this facility will play a critical role in enhancing supply chain security for essential materials, reducing reliance on overseas production and safeguarding against potential disruptions.
Founded in Finland in 1980, Premix Group has built a sterling reputation as a family-owned business synonymous with innovation, unwavering quality, and a steadfast commitment to customer-centric solutions. The North Carolina facility is a testament to the company's continued growth and its strategic vision for global expansion. This investment underscores Premix Group's dedication to serving the U.S. market with domestically produced, high-performance materials that are critical for advancements in healthcare, technology, and various industrial sectors.
