Europe: The German energy company RWE (RWEG.DE) and the South Korean company Lotte Chemical Corp (011170.KS) have agreed to study the possibility of producing clean Ammonia in the American state of Texas, according to a statement released on Wednesday by Japan's Mitsubishi Corp (8058.T). Ammonia and hydrogen are at the centre of developed countries' efforts, including Japan's, to achieve zero carbon emissions by the middle of the century, with investments and projects being considered briskly all over the world. The port has earned recognition of existing Hydrogen pipelines. Adding to this, end, a joint study agreement (JSA) was also signed by the parties as part of a strategic alliance they formed to jointly develop stable and substantial clean ammonia supply chains in the US, Europe, and Asia.

A large ammonia facility that produces both green and blue ammonia and uses a shared infrastructure for exports overseas, with a focus on Asia and Europe, is something that the parties will look into together in accordance with the JSA. A phased expansion of production capacity with multiple production units is the partners' goal, with the first production beginning by 2030. The project is expected to produce up to 10 million tons of clean ammonia annually when it reaches the final build-out stage.

The land needed for the project is under conversation with the Port of Corpus Christi Authority. The partners claimed that in order to develop the project, they are combining complementary expertise. The South Texas region and other preliminary initiatives to develop large-scale clean ammonia projects are said to complement this JSA. Plans are being made to develop green hydrogen projects in the port in addition to clean ammonia. With regard to green hydrogen production specifically, Apex Clean Energy, Ares, EPIC Midstream, and PPCA are investigating it, including a new pipeline and a green fuels hub at the port.
