This collaboration combines advanced lithium-selective adsorbent materials with proprietary system engineering to accelerate the deployment of sustainable lithium sourcing worldwide.
In a move set to transform the efficiency and sustainability of the lithium industry, Saint-Gobain Ceramics, a global powerhouse in materials and solutions for sustainable industries, and Eurodia Industrie, a specialist in process engineering and liquid purification technologies, have officially unveiled a strategic partnership. The collaboration is designed to provide comprehensive, integrated solutions for the rapidly expanding Direct Lithium Extraction (DLE) market.
Saint-Gobain Ceramics contributes its advanced, proprietary lithium-selective adsorbent materials. These adsorbents are the culmination of extensive Research & Development in ceramics and materials science, engineered for exceptionally high capacity, selectivity, and durability. They are specifically optimized for repeated use in the cyclic adsorption/desorption processes that are fundamental to efficient DLE operations.
Meanwhile, Eurodia Industrie brings decades of experience in the design, optimization, and industrial scaling of complex separation systems, honed across diverse sectors including food and beverages, environmental, and energy transition industries. Their process expertise is vital for enabling a customized, complete turnkey DLE solution, tailored precisely to the unique brine chemistries and specific production goals of lithium operators.
DLE is heralded as a transformative alternative to conventional, resource-intensive methods like evaporation ponds. This innovative approach promises significantly greater selectivity, potentially achieving over 90% Li+ recovery compared to the 43% typical of evaporation methods. Crucially, DLE systems offer substantial environmental benefits, including shortened processing times, reduced direct land use, and the conservation of aquifer water balance by reinjecting spent brine. As the global demand for lithium skyrockets, fueled by the accelerating adoption of electric vehicles, stationary storage, and grid-scale batteries, scalable and low-impact extraction methods are not just beneficial—they are critical.
“Combining Saint-Gobain Ceramics’ expertise in materials science with Eurodia’s process engineering creates a powerful offering for lithium producers,” stated Othman Benjelloun-Touimi, CEO of Saint-Gobain Ceramics. “Together, we’re enabling the lithium industry to achieve new benchmarks in sustainability and performance.”
The goal is to accelerate the commercial deployment of high-efficiency, sustainable lithium extraction systems proven at scale, offering DLE operators worldwide an enhanced, reliable offering.
Mathieu Bailly, President of Eurodia, emphasized the value proposition for clients. “Partnering with Saint-Gobain Ceramics to deliver a tailored, complete turnkey DLE solution for lithium producers is a valuable opportunity. Our combined expertise and experience will allow us to provide full guarantees of optimal operation for DLE and will therefore help the lithium industry to move faster towards a more sustainable future, with confidence and reliability.”
The partnership has already begun engaging with lithium project developers and technology integrators across multiple geographies, with pilot systems currently in the design and deployment phases, signaling a rapid progression toward commercial readiness for this crucial technology.
