Sawgrass LNG & Power has been awarded a renewed LNG supply contract by Barbados National Energy Company Limited (BNECL), continuing a successful partnership that began in 2016.
Sawgrass LNG & Power, a leading supplier of liquefied natural gas (LNG) and comprehensive gas-to-power solutions, has announced the renewal of its LNG supply contract with Barbados National Energy Company Limited (BNECL). This award strengthens a relationship that has flourished since 2016, reinforcing Sawgrass's dedication to supporting Barbados with secure and sustainable energy solutions as the island navigates its energy transition.
Under the new contract, Sawgrass LNG & Power will continue to deliver LNG to meet Barbados' increasing energy demands. The deal builds upon nearly ten years of collaboration, during which Sawgrass has established a reputation for operational excellence, reliability, and innovation in energy supply tailored specifically for the Caribbean market.
James Browne, Officer-In-Charge of BNECL, emphasized the critical role that LNG plays in Barbados’ broader energy strategy. "LNG is a key transitional fuel in our vision to diversify our energy mix beyond traditional fossil fuels, moving toward a more resilient and low-emissions energy system," Browne explained. He highlighted the unique energy challenges faced by Barbados as an island economy, noting the importance of adaptability and resilience. The partnership with Sawgrass allows BNECL to ensure energy stability in the short term while integrating intermittent renewable energy sources such as solar and wind, alongside battery energy storage systems (BESS), for long-term sustainability.
Daniel McLaughlin, President and Chief Commercial Officer of Sawgrass LNG & Power, expressed pride in continuing the partnership. "From the outset, our relationship with BNECL has been driven by a shared commitment to energy security and sustainability," McLaughlin said. "We are honored to support Barbados with dependable, lower-emissions energy and look forward to helping the country achieve its energy goals and accommodate future growth."
This renewed contract not only solidifies Sawgrass LNG & Power’s position as a trusted energy partner in the Caribbean but also highlights the company’s broader role in supporting the region’s transition to cleaner, more reliable energy systems. By combining LNG with renewable energy integration and energy storage, Barbados aims to reduce its carbon footprint while maintaining economic and energy resilience.
As the Caribbean continues to seek innovative energy solutions that address both environmental and economic challenges, the partnership between Sawgrass LNG & Power and BNECL stands as a model for successful collaboration in the region’s energy future.
