Shell-FOCOL JV selects Nikkiso to supply regasification systems and services for Bahamas LNG-to-power project, enabling cleaner, lower-carbon energy generation.

Nikkiso Clean Energy & Industrial Gases Group (Nikkiso CE&IG), a subsidiary of Japan’s Nikkiso, has been selected to play a pivotal role in an upcoming LNG-to-power initiative in Nassau, the Bahamas. The company has been contracted by New Providence Gas (NPG), a joint venture being established between Shell and a subsidiary of FOCOL Holdings, to provide advanced liquefied natural gas (LNG) regasification and cryogenic equipment for the project.

The LNG-to-power project aims to create a new LNG receiving terminal at Clifton Pier. This facility will enhance the region’s power generation capacity by providing lower-carbon fuel alternatives for electricity generation. Specifically, it will replace diesel previously used in existing turbines with cleaner-burning natural gas, while also fueling newly installed gas turbines. This marks a significant step in advancing energy transition goals within the Bahamas.

Under the agreement, Nikkiso CE&IG will supply a complete LNG packaged regasification system. The system includes several key components: high-pressure submerged centrifugal pumps mounted on a modular pump skid, a gas-fired water bath vaporizer, power distribution and control systems, as well as an insulated pipeline that incorporates Nikkiso’s vacuum-jacketed design. Additionally, site-critical ancillary equipment will be provided to ensure smooth and efficient operations.

Adrian Ridge, President and CEO of Nikkiso CE&IG Group, emphasized the reliability and adaptability of the company’s technology. He noted that Nikkiso’s LNG-to-power solutions are highly regarded because the company not only engineers and manufactures essential systems but also provides installation and long-term service support. This comprehensive approach, according to Ridge, allows customers to confidently deploy natural gas power projects in even the most remote locations worldwide. He further highlighted that Nikkiso has consistently proven its capability by delivering and installing equipment on time, across projects of varying scales.

Another notable feature of the project is the modular and standardized design of the regasification system, which boasts a capacity of 55 million standard cubic feet per day. This design helps reduce integration time and costs, enabling faster deployment of the LNG terminal. The facility itself will be developed in phases, ensuring gradual expansion of infrastructure and allowing for efficient scaling of operations.

The contract also involves Nikkiso providing engineering services to support the project throughout its development. This underscores the company’s integral role not just as an equipment supplier but also as a technical partner contributing to the long-term success of the LNG terminal.

By leveraging LNG for power generation, the Shell-FOCOL JV through NPG is working to modernize energy infrastructure in the Bahamas while simultaneously reducing carbon emissions. With Nikkiso’s proven expertise in cryogenic and regasification technology, the project is well-positioned to deliver reliable, cleaner, and more sustainable power for the nation.
