SIPG and Evergreen have solidified their commitment to advancing sustainable maritime practices through the signing of a comprehensive Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The focus of this collaboration is on facilitating the supply and refueling of green methanol at the Shanghai port, marking a significant milestone in the pursuit of environment-friendly shipping solutions.

As outlined in the agreement, SIPG will play a pivotal role in providing an array of services related to the procurement, supply, and refueling of green methanol for Evergreen's forthcoming methanol dual-fuel vessels. These vessels are anticipated to be delivered during 2026 and 2027, marking a strategic move toward incorporating cleaner and more sustainable energy sources in maritime operations.

The cooperative efforts between SIPG and Evergreen extend beyond the operational aspects of green methanol supply, encompassing a broader commitment to collaborative initiatives. Both parties have pledged to actively promote carbon reduction measures, contributing to the global endeavor to mitigate the environmental impact of maritime activities. Furthermore, the agreement underscores a shared vision to transform the Shanghai port into a leading low-carbon and environment-friendly energy hub within the Asia-Pacific region.

One of the key elements outlined in the agreement is SIPG's role in providing comprehensive green methanol services. This includes the purchase, supply, and refueling of green methanol for Evergreen's methanol dual-fuel vessels. These vessels, scheduled for delivery in 2026 and 2027, represent a significant step forward in adopting innovative and eco-friendly propulsion technologies. The commitment to green methanol as a fuel source aligns with the broader industry trend toward decarbonization and reducing the ecological footprint of maritime operations.

The strategic vision outlined in the MoU extends beyond the immediate operational aspects and embraces a long-term perspective. The goal to construct the Shanghai port as a low-carbon and environmentally friendly energy hub is a testament to the commitment of SIPG and Evergreen to be catalysts for positive change in the region. This transformation of the port into a sustainable energy hub aligns with the broader goals of urban development and environmental conservation, positioning Shanghai as a leader in responsible port management.

Gu Jinshan, Chairman of SIPG, emphasized the transformative potential of the MoU, highlighting its role in promoting SIPG and Evergreen to explore a cleaner and more efficient green shipping system. The acknowledgment of the need for a paradigm shift in shipping practices toward sustainability reflects a forward-thinking approach. Gu Jinshan's statement underscores the shared commitment to embracing innovative solutions that prioritize environmental conservation and contribute to a greener future.
